Hello basia fans, Just sitting around listening to old records and thinkin' to myself what might all of you be listening to nowadays? so in my yearly tradition i am asking for us too recount, your top 5 or 10 favorite recordings of the last year. Sound like fun? how about also 1 or 2 of your worst picks? or a great live performance you have seen. over the past couple of years it has been fun to see what everybody has been vibrating on. So is anybody interested in playing along? you might find a great new/old artist! I'll go first..... 1) Karrin Allyson "From Paris to Rio" Concord Record 4865-2. The Rio songs of this disk,,unbeatable. Almost replaced Ms.B as far as listening time. 2) Steely Dan "two against nature" Enjoyed this early this year but burned out on it because i listened to it to much. Sonically, WOW. 3) Matt Bianco "Whose side are you on" fabrication en Allemagne. GB:WX7C,240 472-4 or France WE 421. A cassette tape from 1984. 120us HX-pro Dolby B-NR. Go ahead and laugh. The first time the tape was played back i burned it to a CD and the hiss and the noise and the sound... dynamics on a cassette tape, no way. But something just clicked and it just sounds great. Plus it is the only source that i know of containing all of the remixes and bonus tracks in order. Retro. 4) Joe Jackson "Look Sharp" 1979 classic. Retro is important when you get old. 5) Robin Trower "This was now '74-'98" greatest hits" Old English blues guitar playin' mofo. 6) Jill Sobule "Pink Pearl" Jill is very real and genuine and composes wonderful songs. 7) Bossa Galore "Lounge at Cinevox" CD MDF 334 Itialian. This cd is a trip into the world of 60's and 70's Italian bossanova soundtracks. For 2 decades Italian films of all kinds, erotic comedies, action movies and even spy stories all found time for a little bossanova. ultra real lounge. 8) The music from the movie "Sweet and Lowdown" by Woody Allen. Not all of it, just some of it. Django sound. 9) Oh, did I forget Basia's new CD "A tribute to Tom Neill" featuring Me and Danny and the band at the Hollywood Bowl!!!!!! I play the triangle..Ting. This is not yet available but I'm working on it. No, really I've been practicing. 10) Todd Rundgren "Reconstructed" brand new, with his voice singing his hits with other other artists stylizing the music. some clever mixes on this. MY WORST PICKS..... OK how all of those over hyped crooning boy groups. yuk. I'm now done. Happy Holidays. I'm in Buffalo too, and it could be described as a musical wasteland, perhaps not a "vast" one - after all, Basia did perform here - once! Jerry P. If you have a taste for Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughan, then you will enjoy Karrin Allyson. Stephen Ylvisaker greyfell@iname.com "That's the whole problem with science.
