But the $64 question... What's the sticker price? - -Brian* ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2000 06:50:00 -0800 From: "ERNEST L GUNTER" Subject: Re: Toyota Hybrid/off-topic Brian... it is costing $40 K to get this car into the US at this time due to it not being mass produced. The government and Toyota are subsidizing it and selling it for $19,995 just to get it accepted by our "zoom zoom" society. There is a $2 K tax deduction for buying it also. I did not know the "under 20K" price was important until I shopped for insurance on it. Insurance price is not bad at all. Close to what I am paying for a 93 Intrepid. The dealer has a person trained on the Prius and "if" you take it in they put it in front of other cars at this time aiming at a 2 hour turn around. We have had no problems so far. It has no gears in the transmission which makes it have a different smooth feel. Our dealer added $500. because he said he will not have the demo anymore and just had to make more money off of it. (After telling me he would sell it for sticker price). We wanted it so bad we just paid it. Costs about $15K and small enough to park in motorcycle spaces. (And it is allowed to.) I see them around town once in a while, they're cute! Her name is Dido Armstrong, performing as just "Dido". Her first album, _No Angel_, is out, and doing pretty well. One song is called "I'm No Angel", a familiar refrain for fans of _London Warsaw New York_. I listed to this disc a lot while on my last business trip. I really like her voice, although the range isn't quite a match for Miss B. It actually reminded me some of Corrine from Swing Out Sister. Her lyrics were just OK, IMHO. However, the music was very cool with a trancy trip-hop feel that does overpower, and I think the disc does get better with a few listens. In a lot of ways, she reminded me more of Beth Orton or Sarah Maclaughlin, that Basia, but I did enjoy it, and I'm recommend it, although not strongly. Also on my recent list: I saw Shawn Colvin in concert back in September, at a very cool outdoor show here in Austin. She performed some of the songs from her new album to be released this spring, and I think its going to be very good, although maybe not as big as _A Few Small Repairs_. Also I got the new Ginger Mackenzie album -- she's very Austin, reminding me of Abra Moore, but not so annoying. Its a bit more folky than the Basia list normally dwells into, with a few songs reminding me of Suzanne Vega. - --ben ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V5 #134 ***************************
