Both have excellent bands with great players. I found Basia and SOS about the same time. At the time, I thought they were similar somehow, but I now realize that the connection I was making was probably due to the fact that Corrine and Basia are just such good singers with beautiful voices. They stood out from the crowd of pop vocalists I was hearing on the radio back then. I later thought Basia and Kevyn Lettau were similar for the same reason. > SOS' The Living Return, which came out in 1994 (I think), is every bit as > good as The Sweetest Illusion. There are exceptions for critical favorites and cult figures of course, but Basia was neither. This is not a criticism of course, and perhaps not even factually true--she did receive some glowing critical praise and we represent a cult of sorts- but I think that what I'm saying is pretty clear. Most people in the US who love "Time And Tide" etc STILL haven't given HER any real thought in years. Basia needs to get a new cd out here before she's completely forgotten by the lite-jazz public that she once appealled to. By contrast, Sade is actively missed, which is unfair in my view, but hey... It looks > like her star has fallen in the UK, alas. Not necessarily. I think it's just been so long since anything has been released that's cool (UK CD-3s and the like) that there just isn't anything left. I went to Tower and they were getting rid of stuff like the UK Third Time Lucky for cheap because, well, they only keep singles for so long. Bummer I know. But you didn't get the unique dispeasure of seeeing 20-odd copies of T&T on sale at a to-be-unnamed SF record emporium for $1.99. Sean Sean, you make an excellent point. I like Sade also, but I don't anxiously await a new release as I do with Basia. Sade had better fortune in the "hit single" department than our heroine, perhaps that is why she is more in the public consciousness. Hey, I just thought of something - her band make a "solo" CD, how about Basia's band? I'm telling you, Danny does "Matt's Mood Part 3", real wild and funky with the Hammond organ! Whoooooo!
