[Leslie Brown ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 9 Nov 2000 03:40:03 -0800 (PST) From: Jim Subject: Basia Club At one time we discussed a medium for ML members to post their pictures. I have set up a group photo album in the Basia Club on Yahoo, for Basia club members, and am posting my own pic there. I invite all Basia ML members to join the club and post their own photos there as well, if interested. Or, you can just step into the club, and have a look about. The only (minor) hassle is that to join a club you first need to set up a Yahoo account, if you don't already have one. This is simple and free, (takes 5 or 10 minutes) plus you get free Email and free website space if you want to use it. A link for setting up a Yahoo account is down below. The Basia Club link is underneath the account setup link. I joined the Basia Club a couple of days ago and have been posting messages under the temporary nickname soren_true, and now Garland_Falcon. On our Mailing List, we frequently go by first and/or last names. Members of Yahoo clubs and message boards, on the other hand, use nicknames, as do all message boards. I reveal only my first name in my Yahoo profile, and on the message boards and club areas. I set up a Basia photo album at the Basia club, and uploaded 11 Basia pics so far. I plan to upload more as time permits. I have also set up an album for club members to post their photos if they wish. I am posting my photo in the member album. (it's also in my profile). Yahoo has thousands of clubs in message board format, with sections for photos and links. Whatever your special interests might be, you *will* find a club to accommodate them. These clubs are very simple and user-friendly. Nothing to it. One other thing - a Yahoo Email address is perfect for an 'anonymous' address; set it up with a nickname, and all mail comes to and goes from the web site, not your 'real' email addy. This is great for mailing groups and message lists. Plus you can get your mail from anywhere if you are out of town - just direct your browser toward Yahoo (or hotmail, etc). I use Yahoo for anonymous mail (ML, boards). I also have a 'real life' hotmail account with my name in the addy, for friends, family and business. Consequently I have the convenience of access to both Email accounts, wherever I go. Here are the link(s) for anyone who is interested. http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/edit/ {Yahoo Setup} http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/basia {Basia club} ~MP~ Jim __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? My pleasure John, and may I also thank Jim P. for reminding me of this *wonderful* little group. You Must get "It's Better to Travel" in addition to "The Living Return" which Jim P. recommended. I think they may overlap bands at some points, but I'm not the SOS expert. I like Corrine as well but the difference, I guess, is the distance. Corrine seems way removed from what she is singing. Does that make sense? There is a connection missing there. And from what I've heard of them both, Basia seems to vary her voice more through each song. Corrine has the tendency to sound flatter in what I've heard (keep in mind that I don't have the expansive SOS knowledge). Not that these are bad characteristics, mind you, just a difference in delivery. I give big ups to SOS for the simple fact that they were doing the mod British, '60's jet set retro-chic thing waaaaay back before it was in vogue. Before the West discovered Pizzicato Five. > SOS' The Living Return, which came out in 1994 (I > think), is every bit as > good as The Sweetest Illusion. They definitely have similar influences. Hey, anybody hear the new Sade yet? Not sure if it's out en masse yet, but I'm curious. I wasn't too impressed with the first single but I'm hoping the album is better. - --Leslie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. I was previously on this list, then due to work and course load had to drop. So, I'm wondering -- what have I missed -- esp. is Basia releasing a new CD anytime soon? The latest, unofficial news we have is that there's a complete album without a label. She seems to have left Sony and the record is being shopped around. Maybe it had to do with this big rash of dropping lately from all major labels. Who knows. But I am definitely glad she's rid of Sony, they haven't done crap for her promotion-wise from TSI on, in my opinion. Anyway, glad you're back on. - --Leslie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products.
