Hi all !!!! An information : The new greatest hits collection (announced in january in France) is at Epic/Sony Music. In France, when a "compilation" arrives (we call a greatest hits collection a compilation), often, a new album is near. Hoping, hoping.... By the way what part of france are you from? I recently returned from a 12 days cruise . I went to Barcelona, France and Italy. The best part of the trip was Provence. I went to Ville Franc, Monaco, Montacarlo and EZE. I enjoyed EZE the most and hope to return. Just though I would say that. denis with one "N" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Nov 2000 11:11:11 -0800 (PST) From: Leslie Brown Subject: Yahoo Club and an actual on-topic topic! > http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/basia > Worth a look. That forum has always kinda bugged me (no offense, please, to any cross-posters) because for a long while it was way too gushy and I don't go for that. But I checked back and they seem to be going for more serious discussion, which is good. After all, you can only compliment someone so much. I liked the topic brought up about "sound-alike groups." For example, for some reason back when they both were making records with (relative) regularity, You almost couldn't read anything about Basia without hearing about Sade. Conversely, I believe the MusicHound Rock guide put Swing Out Sister as influenced by Basia! What are your takes on this? Discuss. I'll give my take on it after I hear yours. - --Leslie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. Guess they had to fill up their album-number clause there as well. Please tell me there aren't any crappy stock photos Ugh. I think both put out excellant pop-jazz adult contemporary music. Both have a keyboard player as the behind the scenes leader. Basia and Corrine Drewery both are excellent singers without resorting to pure lung power for every song, a la Mariah and her ilk. Both have excellent bands with great players. SOS' The Living Return, which came out in 1994 (I think), is every bit as good as The Sweetest Illusion. I never get tired of listening to either of these CD's. The Living Return features a "band" sound - SOS tried to get the sound of the CD similar to that of a live performance. There are great performances by REAL musicians! None of this computer music that I hate so much! I'd highly recommend this CD to anyone. As far as being influenced by Basia, I'm not sure I see that. Basia's songs are quite personal, and I don't find the same for SOS. I think they are grouped together because they play a similar kind of music. On another note, has anyone ever seen them live? I'd be interested in hearing........... Thanks for the tip! Corrine Drewery has a beautiful voice. I have the trademark "It's better to travel" and a couple of other SOS CD's but don't have TLR. I'll check it out. > As far as being influenced by Basia, I'm not sure I > see that. I agree. SOS and Basia/Danny, while perhaps in the same basic category, have noticeably different individual styles. Cheers, Jim - --- JPovlock@aol.com wrote: > > Swing Out Sister as > influenced by Basia!
