Yippee, I'm online again! I see not much has happened in my absence. Crap. I was hoping there would be some mind-shattering announcements. Cries of joy from the peanut gallery. In short, a new album. Sigh. Well, I'll make some use of the broadband. After all, the Jane Siberry list can't really need all that juice. My final assessment is: if you ever have a chance to drive cross-country in the US, be sure to take it. I can't believe the sheer size of the place. Getting through Nebraska alone was a haul. We stopped at some crazy places, lots of little roadside joints and some cool touristy things. Stuff we didn't plan on as well (the Bix Biederbecke memorial in Davenport, IA; wild horses in WY, snow in the mountains when it had been 80 that day in the morning!) And, yes, a Saturn can make the trip quite well (what a little workhorse!) though I would suggest something that can handle the grade. I would have appreciated a bit more power. More amazing feats: found a place to live in SF under $1500. This was mostly due to the efforts of my SO who was on the case while I was working, and boy did that ever help. Also good to have are friends who have done it before you. All my friends here did, and in fact we stayed with two of them while another came in the day after. Five people. A two bedroom. All guys except me. One bathroom. Needless to say the place was rank, between the piles of dirty laundry, unwashed dishes, and all-around crowdedness. The moral of the housing story, though, is 1) bring your credit report 2) Blue envelopes are memorable 3) Talk to the guy hanging around outside, he may be someone important. We barely made it on the Muni, dressed nice and respectable-like, but got there, blue envelope in hand, and were greeted by a guy standing outside (didn't notice him too much) and by some 20 odd people crammed in this fairly small space. Welcome to the San Francisco Experience. Since we had the blue envelope brimming with everything but our dental records, all we had to do was give the place a once-over, give them the envelope and be on our way to check out the parking. (our competition was a guy hurredly filling out the application, another with no credit report, a couple way unhappy with the place, and a bunch of dot-commers which made wayyyyy more money than I ever could.) Since the parking was a-ok, and less than most, we were good to go. The guy outside noticed we were checking out the building and we struck up a nice long conversation. He was a way cool guy and we were all quite happy that at least we didn't miss the Muni and we got some practice at the house hunting thing. Turns out they picked us. Little ol' half-unemployed, half-making-jack us. The man was the landlord's husband. He liked us and convinced her to give us a chance. Now on to IKEA! (Although Tyler Durden won't be blowing me up anytime soon) Cheers! Leslie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. (Leslie is away, so maybe I can > get away with saying > that.) Nope. ;) Just kidding. I would defend Danny right and left except after all these years and umpteen zillion projects by other band members, I have to ask: what does Danny do to eat?! Yeah, I know he has a kid now and all, and maybe that explains it, but session sometime! Hell, Peter can't guest on every single smooth jazz album ever released for much longer, there *must* be some work there! (Note: God forbid). EVERY guy and gal on the Basia roster seems to be doing a lovely job without her, and I would be curious to see if Danny could/would too. I just want to hear the bloody lost-in-Sony limbo album. And, for the record, I think Basia and Bjork have nothing to show one another and that Bjork would have a good laugh over it. - --Leslie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? And I have a 3-incher as well, except I would never fold it up and it is "Copernicus." Which I find weird for a single but hey, it's Japan. And I found the weirdo Matt Bianco shaped picture disc as well as a weird but cool version of Time and Tide, which must be French or Austrian because of the label (still on it!) with no bonus tracks, on the Portrait label, and with completely different cover art (sheesh, how many copies of T&T is that? Oy) Identified with the characters in High Fidelity I did, Leslie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. I remember driving Nebraska ... an entire *state* that smells like pigs__t!! (Due to the large number of pork farms there.) BLEAGHHH!! URRRRR!!! (I'm vegetarian now.) How can anyone live their whole life in that unbeleivable stench? And North Dakota ... an entire state that smells like *diesel oil*! (Due to the many trucks and truckstops there.) ... a state that looks like a computer-generated landscape from some crummy flight simulator ... (Like, you see the same silo/cornfield over and over again...) But if you take Wyoming to Yellowstone and then hang a right, ya get to Idaho.
