["Diana Knight" Subject: OT: Bjork-Dancer Ok, well after posting that about Dancer in the Dark I checked around and surprise... the film's playing nearby! So I went to see it tonite. Hmm, it reminded me why I avoid "art" films, but the fact is Bjork made it worthwhile. Her singing and personality shine even trapped in this demented director's bizarre, and very half-assed attempt at an "existentialist" nightmare. It's something like a 2-hour Sat. Nite Live parody that got out of hand and took itself seriously ... don't know how to say it any other way. You end up thinking, "what the *hell* is this??" I think maybe Bjork was laughing her way through the whole crazy thing. As far as I can tell, the director has these messages for us: 1. Bjork is cute. 2. I want to make raw documentary films, like "Cops" footage. 3. No, I want to make MTV music videos! 4. I can do both in the same film!!! I'm a GENIUS!!! 5. Never keep lots of cash in a cookie tin. Bad, bad idea. 6. Bjork is incredibly CUTE! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Oct 2000 09:26:11 -0500 From: "Diana Knight" Subject: Re: A new greatest hits collection ?. I'll wait until it's on video... You might like Bjork's first film better, "The Juniper Tree". It was shot in Iceland in '86 in b & w. It's a thoroughly depressing tale based on (I think) a Brothers Grimm fable or something. It is a decent little curio, available still from Rhino Video as far as I know at http://www.rhino.com/ Thanks for the review.
