Yes!!! And the chorus goes: Basia: This time I want it, this time I love it Sisqo: Money babee Basia: This time I want it for real... Sisqo: Body babee and they do a dirty dance, Basia shakes her thonged bootie and Hype Williams directed video evolves into his typical ol' shit. > Personally, I think she'd be better off to veer into electronic dance. > Team up with like, 808 State and cut loose yet another sub-genre > of electronica! I'd seriously like her to do it. But somehow I think "So Nice" is the farthest she can go that particular way. I think I'll do the "This time I want it" song myself... it's very Michael Jackson in my mind... Ya know, I love Basia and everything - but I'm pretty sure I don't wanna see her thonged booty, etc. Love those cool concert dresses though... - -- - -Robert Loaded down with your talents; Can you still keep your balance? - Emerson, Lake & Palmer ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2000 10:49:23 -0700 (PDT) From: Leslie Brown Subject: Re: Basia, Britney Spears, Rappers, and MTV > No dancing is required, but if > she wanted to dance around in a thong bikini > that’s would be a plus. There's really nothing to get excited about, unfortunately. After doing a double take on seeing Basia on the cover (as part of a collage of "Women in Jazz", about 1.5 inches tall, if that), I was really deflated to not see her anywhere in the magazine. Boo. I'm not the big Jazziz fan anyway. - --Leslie (check out April 1990 though) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Considering the current, um, *discussion* I have a few tidbits to leave you with. Enjoy. And if anyone is looking to buy a Saturn, well, I can tell you those things hold a helluva lotta stuff. Impressive. See you in 2400 miles. - --Leslie - -------------- How nice it is to welcome Basia back into clubland. It has been eons since "Cruising For Bruising" filled floors. This time, she and the song "Drunk on Love" undergo rhythmn surgery by Roger Sanchez and emerge spiffy and overflowing with gospel-goosed house energy. Sanchez wisely uses much of the vocal and melody, dressing them with lively piano lines and a beat that is relentlessly happy. A glowing moment from the singer's new Epic opus, "The Sweetest Illusion," this single has all the marks of a major hit, given the moody range of mixes. Let's hope the label edits one or two of these versions and uses it for a top 40 and rhythmn radio campaign. - --from "Dance Trax" by Larry Flick, Bilboard, 7/30/94 (I can't resist to add my .02 here: Larry had the right idea that the edits should have been pushed at radio. I always thought the "Downtown Club Mix" would have been a big hit. I was in high school at the time, and there were a few times I had the chance to play this in class (don't ask) The reactions were always "who's that? That is cool!" Could've been... *sigh* Yes, I did cheer at the label change. Incidentally, "DoL" was the #1 on Billboard's Club Play chart a few short weeks later.--L.) - ------- Here's another Billboard-DoL bit, from the "Single Reviews" page on 7/23/94. "DoL" was given a star, meaning that "new releases, regardless of potential chart action, which the reviewer highly recommends because of their musical merit." Yeah! Back to packing for me: Second single from the gorgeous "Sweetest Illusion" album is a bit more radio-friendly, without losing the jazz spice that seasons the set. Once again, Basia makes her note-hopping performance look deceptively simple, while co-producer Danny White surrounds her with bouncy beats, luscious trumpets, and clipped guitar riffs. Layered scatting at the close of the cut is a lovely surprise. What a treat! (No writer is credited, but the header states "edited by Larry Flick." Whatta guy.--L.) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I hope you are aware of the housing costs!! Once over that, it's a great place to live, I wouldn't move anywhere. I also agree it was very disappointing. I actually ordered the magazine because I wasn't sure what issue she was in and when I finally got it, This was especially disapointing because they did have a few other women in jazz that they featured but not Ms "B". Maybe she will be in some of the future issues. I saw Rich Braun in concert this weekend at the Intermedia ARt center in Huntington, Long island. He was great. Has a solid two hours of music and jamming. So welcome to our wonderland! I am in Pleasant Hill, about 30 miles northeast of San Francisico. If you choose to live IN San Francisico (very expensive, but possible) you might decide to sell your car. Public transit is pretty good, garages are hard to find, and street parking is nigh impoosible. Then if you go out of SF, you could rent a car for the day/weekend. It would be much cheaper than trying to keep a car in SF. Otherwise, you'll find it a very car-oriented society out here in California. Even when we can, very few of us walk, ride bikes, carpool or take public transit. Which magazine will you be working at? A mainstream mag, or a counter-culture venture? You say we; who else is coming with you? Stephen Stephen Ylvisaker greyfell@iname.com "That's the whole problem with science.
