No bows necessary, we're all one big e-family here, right? remember the verse, "all the world's a stage, and we are merely players, performers and portrayers..." (a little trivia, aye mate) as an artform, music asks you to listen first, then interpret and react subjectively, but with credible objectivity depending on what your game is. yeah, among other things I write for a living, but I'd rather defer 2other people's opinions first. says me, that's one reason why you and I and everyone else is on this list-- to share viewpoints. plus we all worship that fab voice from abroad! without friendly debate and discussion, there's little to learn. but the frivolity on this list is welcome eye candy 2. those that do it well are very creative. oh....yes, I've interviewed Kevyn (and Basia), by phone. > And to everyone else...my brief response was meant only as a quick, > personal view...not an analysis. Boy...that will teach me to keep > my e-mouth shut! :) hey, we can't have any of that. why, cry out loud lad.....sob, sob, sob.... personal view, analysis, comment, synopsis or whatever, brint it on. as Cole Porter once wrote melodically (1936), "Good authors too who once knew better words, now only use four-letter words, writing prose, anything goes". So Larry, speak and be heard, no matter what. > I didn't know Kevyn was tutored by Mendes...that explains a lot... > your info also explains why there were so many imports/foreign releases... > I still feel that she lost direction in some of her attempts to explore > new horizons...I sometimes wonder whether artists can obtain any > kind of objective feedback from trusted sources....at the same time, > several have shared with me how restrictive it is to be required to > produce material similar to that which has come before. It is a rare > artist indeed who can approach a different musical genre and not > alienate their original fan base. Funny U mentioned it. I once asked Basia that very question, whether her embracing other musics (ex., Brazilian tropicalismo) could disuade or throw off any of her core fan base. She urgently replied it's the integrity of the artist that sells it. Either you have it or you don't, and those in the know, know whether or not you're authentic enough. Foremost, she also said, to the music artist, everything comes from the heart, so if it becomes your passion then you end up putting everything into it. As Billie sang, "Body and Soul", dig? Only, with Basia, it's more like the "SWEETEST ILLUSION" !!!!!!!
