Anybody remember that concert or that tour? YES! I was a freshman in college. She came to my hometown (Dallas) maybe a month or so after I left for Florida Tech and I was devastated. Then I found out she was coming to FL and had to coerce some guy in the dorm to give me a ride from Melbourne to Orlando. That was a great show in a really nice hall, a much more appropriate venue than Dallas' CocaCola Cesspool** I mean Starplex. But she wouldn't sing "Masquerade" for US! Said the band didn't know it. Then someone asked for "Come to Heaven," a personal favorite of mine, and she said they didn't know THAT one either! Anyway, it was a great memory. I hope she tours again before I lose my hearing and go senile. By the way, I think that tour was '91. Anyway, I'm intrigued with her being on the cover of Jazziz this month. I mean, why? At the moment, I'm in Japan, so I've had to get a friend to pick up a copy for me. Can't wait to see what that's about. In the July 17 issue of People magazine this Belgium born, current living in Quebec songstress, was compared to Basia. Check out the article on page 39. I quote,"........... her approach, with an easy lilt, is reminiscent of another European-born singer, Basia." " Like Basia, Fabian's English is flavored with a mild accent." Has anyone ever heard her sing? I might add that she is quite beautiful also. In an article about Canadian musical acts who do well in the border towns, but never really hit it big elsewhere in the USA, the comment about Lara was, "She's a French-Canadian diva who just might be the next Celine Dion." And Richard, you are correct - she is pretty cute :) Jim P. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Jul 2000 20:48:12 -0400 From: "Dennis J. My impression was that she sounded like Celine Dion (funny you should mention that, Jim). I could post it somewhere, but I don't think it's of interest to anyone. Lara and Kevyn Hi ya guys and gals out there. I haven't posted in ages! Nice to write again. About Lara Fabian--I heard an excellent dance version of her song "I Will Love Again" tonight on the radio. Her voice is very similar to Celine Dion, I believe--doesn't remind me at all of Basia, really, except for the fact that they all have slight accents when they sing. But that is what makes them "unique" in music. I am sure we have talked about Kevyn Lettau before, but is anyone out there a fan of hers? I dated someone while I lived in Japan that had several of her CDs--I got her greatest hits (Japan version--who knows if there is an American one?) for my birthday (two months late, thanks Amazon!) just recently, and it brought back lots of good memories. Though I see some similarities between her and Basia--a blend of jazz and bassanova/Brazilian rhythms--but Kevyn's is a bit more lighter. From what I recollect, she is American actually, but has lived in Brazil, where she got those South American rhythms. Take care you crazy people! :) raburabu joe ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V5 #83 **************************
