Oh, is that what you call them? ;-) >So thick in fact, she might as well have been singing in Polish. The >only words easily understood were spoken. That's pretty rude. I think she's easier to understand than a lot of native-English speaking singers... but this is coming from someone who, five years ago had all of her songs memorized. >"We're not in Kansas anymore" comes to mind when listening to Basia's band. Huh?! >Sophisticated, tightlarranged Euro-Brazillian beats are flying overhead, >intercepted every once in a while by Brasil 66 and ABBA overtones. "Pass me the bong, dude" comes to mind when reading this review. >Basia is jazz, bubblegum, samba, disco - all with european flavor. It's so >multicultural as to be confusing. This is so funny! "Please stop the music! My brain hurts!!" >But she is a young performer who has >miles to go before she ripens. It's been five years. I wonder if this reviewer has "ripened" yet. Something definitely smells. >But she's been doing this for a few years now, >even having visited Cincinnati four years ago. Even Cincinnati? No wonder we haven't seen much of her lately. Cincinnati's just about as big-time as it gets! >That's time enough to improve a stage act. This is by far the most arrogant document of any kind I have ever laid eyes on. >After three changes of clothes, that got more Vegas-y with each outing, Basia >said goodnight with a familiar Aretha Franklin tune, "That's What I'm Gonna >Do." HAhahahahhaha! Evidently not familiar enough for Ms. Kanaga to know its name. I'm wondering if the real reviewer was out sick and they had a paperboy ghostwrite for her. >Jazzers Spyro Gyra opened. The audience responded enthusiastically to their >set. Long solos predominated on tuned set up for them. I may be about to reveal even more of my ignorance of musical jargon, but does this last sentence make sense to anyone? And I somehow don't think the members of Spyro Gyra would like to be referred to as "Jazzers." He's out of the picture, I believe. Jim >> Yes, technically, he is. Yet we ALL know he could "do something." I've heard of Epic's PR within TWI. Let this be a lesson: Fandom doesn't equate with sales. For no matter how talented an artist is, or how well their last LP sold.... (I'm certain we can complete the sentence.) Still, does ANYONE have any current news re: Basia. I must agree: TWI is, BAR NONE, the best 'sound' I've ever heard. I have four copies, 3 still in package. It's not obsession, maybe a trifle (-: , it's simply this: An artist, even as GRAND as Basia, can vanish. A couple of years ago, I spoke with Dee Anthony (Basia's manager) and he indicated she intended to do some production in Nashville at the time. It would not have been unusual for Danny and her to play a small venue there in an effort to try out an arrangement or obtain audience reaction to a new song. (Ex: Third Time Lucky.) Think of it as "test marketing." I'm certain Paul believes his information is from a reliable source. But, he is not warranting it as fact - merely passing along a possible tidbit. Let's not kill the messenger! And yes Robert....I've bought a bridge or two in my time and can confirm the time-honored wisdom that they are not good investments! Larry, Can you tell us a little more about Basia's Legendary Manager Dee Antony? It is written that he is legendary, but I am dense, and have never heard of him. Can you expand on this?
