I actually like some sushi, especially unagi zushi (grilled eel). Most, I can tolerate. There are a few, including the ones already mentioned, that I tend to avoid. Octopus, for example, is usually rather tough. None of these things has ever made me physically ill. The one Japanese food that has is a kind of sashimi (raw fish, no rice) called odorigui (I think. Joe?) There are several varieties, but the one I encountered was a lobster, which when brought to the table, though carved for serving, was still alive. ...I'll let that sink in for a moment. ... Yup, even as this poor beast was having slices plucked from him by nimble chopsticks, his little limbs and antennae were still wiggling. For a couple minutes, I wasn't sure if I was going to bolt from the table, vomit, or pass out. Fortunately, I managed to avoid all three. It was explained to me later that this is a delicacy in Japan and the fact that the animal is still alive proves that it is fresh. (Please let my food spoil a little!) I'm no vegetarian, but that incident almost did it. Can you think of a worse way to die? *shudder* - -Brian* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Dec 1999 12:01:07 EST From: Samurai27@aol.com Subject: Happy holidays etc Well even though I am a lover of Sushi and I also said over a year ago I hate sea urchin, I would like to divert this discussion. This Friday evening I attending the Smooth jazz holiday concert at Westbury, Long Island. Like last year it was great;Brenda Russell, Peter White, Dave Benoit and the MC Dave Koz. I believe it was even better than last year. Dave Koz is a great musician but an even greater performer. Each star did a few of the songs that made them special and yet they performed as a team. The audience was great and participated vocally and any way that the performers asked. I look at this event as a Christmas present to myself. As ever Peter White was his normal friendly self as he came out after the performance to chat. The only problem I had is the security team makes you leave the area and keep your greeting short. I for one would like to see the four of them if not Dave, Dave and Peter make a new cd together., I would surely be great. This was my first year and it was outstanding!! After the concert we got autographs and I had my picture taken with Benoit, Koz and of course Peter White (can't forget the man) and his "Texas connection" PerfectCaravan Fan Club. My pictures turned out so good. What a way to spend the holidays!!! (It would have been super if Danny and Basia had made an appearance .....ah,h,h dream on!!) Happy Holidays to all the "regulars" on this Basia site. You know who you are.... Am still waiting for Ashoke to make an appearance with maybe a "Holiday" Chronicle? This month she is at 1.6% with 69 votes. For reasons unclear to me, Jane Child is ahead with 2.5%, 104 votes. At the top of the chart we have Diana Ross @24.3%, Donna Summer @21.4%, Sade @18.5%. Down at the very bottom is a group including Jennifer Lopez and Leann Rimes, with 0 votes. I knew that Jennifer was former "Fly Girl" (In Living Color dancer) but was not aware that she sang. She did an excellent job in the "Selena" film FWIW. Guess that makes her a candidate, although I believe that her voice was overlayed with Selena's. *Rambling* -Jim http://www.freevote.com/booth/100bigdiva __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
