What's "digest form"? Does it mean fewer e-mails to open without losing most of the content? If so, it sounds great! I am so far behind in reading my stuff that I'll probably still be on September's mail when you guys tell me that there's a new CD, or that Basia's coming to Milwaukee! I won't know till she's back in Jaworzno. ~Marianne ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Nov 1999 06:53:18 -0800 (PST) From: Leslie Brown Subject: Re:OT:Separate Folders / Anonymous Mail Sites > Use a free Email service such as Yahoo or Hotmail to > sidestep the issue > altogether. I must put in my endorsement for Yahoo. I was a Hotmail user for what seemed like years (hence the constant inquiry of what 'marzenia' meant. LOL) and it was great until everyone and their brother got on it after the Microsoft assimilation. Then, I could never get on it, they would constantly upgrade it, and on and on. In short, I couldn't be on it more than I could. Now Yahoo is pretty barebones, but I almost always can get on (I think the last time I couldn't was 4 months ago!) and it is stable and reliable. My 2 dollars worth... - --Leslie __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? You will get one giant email of all the day's postings up until a certain time of the day (I think smoe ends at 9 pm, but I'm not sure) For an example check out the archives at www.smoe.org/lists/basia (I think) as the archives are in digest form. Just follow the directions in the last posting of the thread to un- and re-subscribe! - --Leslie :) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have spent some time in both Saltillo and San Luis Potosí (another ML member lives in SLP), and I've also visited Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. I would also like to visit Guanajuato and Taxco. SLP and Guadalajara downtown areas are a must-see from 6 to 9pm for anyone visiting these cities. There is a combination of shops, street vendors, etc, and LOTS of people. People-watching alone is worthwhile. Plenty of hotels in the downtown areas; just go outside around 7pm and check it out. Elfego, thanks for the tip on Mecano. I am also a Fiona Apple fan. I once saw her do an "unplugged" session on VH1 which was unforgettable. Good choice, Elfego. That was my choice, also. I believe that makes three of us so far... Joanna Lee (leechurchill@juno.com) Age 37, married w/ stepkids Reside in Oakland CA (across the bay from San Francisco) Event planning consultant/student of court interpretation (Spanish/English) Been on the list about 1 1/2 years Discovered Basia via Matt Bianco ("Get out of your lazy bed") in Tokyo around 1987 or 1988, then back in California in 1988, heard lots of "T&T" on the radio and got the album...and every one since! Saw Basia (Ottmar Liebert, opening act) from the third row of the Greek Theater, a lovely amphitheater in Berkeley in 1991, then at Concord Pavilion in 1994. Met Basia & Danny at a radio station promo for TSI...they are both so wonderfully nice!! "Yearning," "Time & Tide," "Third Time Lucky," "Waters of March" are my favorite Basia songs. I had a fantasy, before I knew better (and read Ray's translation), that "Dzien Sie Budzi" meant "Shake your Booty" in Polish! (I know, LOL!) I also enjoy U2, Pretenders, Tom Petty, Chris Isaak, Tom Jobim, Astrud & Joao Gilberto and many others. As an aside, I befriended Ashoke via the ML and we met in Cleveland last year when I was there for a conference. Had the good luck to see him again last week when I accompanied my husband to a convention HE was attending in Cleveland! Ashoke is alive and well and had just returned from his native India. I trust he will answer the roll call shortly. He shared with me the story of his famous recipe which was inadvertently posted to the list...would one of you long-timers care to recount the tale? It's been SO great to know about our fellow fans! You go, Leslie! ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V4 #225 ***************************
