Now that Misty has given us a little bonding experience... ;-) I'll copy Leslie's format, too. ROLLCALL!! NAME: Brian Cundieff AGE: 27 WHERE I'M AT: Takaharu town, Miyazaki prefecture, Japan WHAT I DO: teach english TIME ON LIST: couple years DISCOVERING BASIA: I think it was about 9 years ago. Had heard her on the radio occasionally. My CD collection was just getting started at the time and since all my discs at that point were instrumental, I was looking for a jazz vocal. Bought Time & Tide on a whim. (Basia was still in the jazz section of music stores in those days.) That night, I listened to the opening strains of Promises in my friend's car on the way home and have been hooked ever since. FAVORITE SONGS: An Olive Tree, Promises, Give Me That (just kidding!), Half a Minute,... WORST SONGS: Prefer to accentuate the positive this week. ;-) BEST ALBUM?: Sweetest Illusion FAVORITE BAND MEMBERS: Hmmm... That's a tough one... That chick--what's her name? Basie? "It's Basia." OTHER MUSICAL INTERESTS: Without a doubt, Dreams Come True, a Japanese band. In ten years, they've released at least ten albums (one in English) and they're all winners. You might have heard their "Winter Song" on the Sleepless in Seattle soundtrack. Still love the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Pretenders. OTHER INTERESTS: Climbing around on volcanos, shaving my head, Buddhist temples. Someday, I hope to have my head shaved in a Buddhist temple on top of a volcano. When we do, it is a good idea to have a separate folder (other than your inbox) for incoming mail. Suggestion: set up a separate folder for the ML. This takes about five minutes and will keep your inbox free of ML messages; they are all automatically routed to your special ML folder. For the benefit of those who have not done it, here are the basic instructions. These instructions will of course vary depending on which EMail product you use. I use Outlook Express 5.0. 1. Set up a new folder for incoming ML messages: - -Click "File" ; "New" ; "Folder" - -Enter the new folder name. I call mine "Basia ML". 2. Setup a "message rule" to route all messages with basia@smoe.org in the "To:" line to the new folder. Use the "Tools" or "Inbox assistant" or similar function to set this up. This function is standard on all Email packages I have seen. ============================== OR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <=====> EVEN BETTER!!!!!!!! ============================== Use a free Email service such as Yahoo or Hotmail to sidestep the issue altogether. There are a couple of real advantages to this: 1. You don't garbage up your inbox with ML stuff (no offense intended), or hassle with maintaining a new folder. 2. These services are ANONYMOUS. Anyone responding from the ML to you is communicating with Yahoo/Hotmail Web Sites, NOT your local ISP. These services will not reveal your identity to anyone except law enforcement or business partners. This is a good security measure when communicating with Mailing Lists, Personal Ads, or any other situation in which you do *NOT* want responders to trace your whereabouts and identity.
