OFF TOPIC WHAT? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Nov 1999 14:09:10 -0600 From: "Jim Clary" Subject: Re: Mailing List Misty, Good Luck. This artist is second to none as a female vocalist IMHO. However there is very little news at present, with the exception of some collaboration with Peter White, Taro Hakase, and Spyro Gyra. Basia has married, as far as I know is still living in London, and apparently makes frequent trips to Jaworzno to spend time with family and friends. In other words, she has settled down and is happy. It is possible that like many artists, she does her best work when she is unhappy. In any case, while the quality of her work (and those who support her musically) is top-notch, there is currently very little in the way of news. Sometimes we discuss her past work and past associates (i.e. Matt Bianco). Sometimes we go off-topic. Otherwise this ML would have practically no messages. Some of us are connected to the music industry and have quicker access to news, and to work which is extremely hard to obtain in the US, such as the Taro Hakase collaboration. Members of this list were able to obtain copies of the Basia/Taro song "So Nice" which are currently unknown in the US. If I were not a member of the ML, I would not have this lovely rendition of the Astrud Gilberto song. Members of this mailing list have been waiting 5+ years since the last CD. We understand that the artist is under no obligation to produce further work, and the possibility exists that an additional CD could be postponed indefinitely. Yet we continue to wait, and discuss the artist, and occasionally go off-topic. So if you are "into Basia", my recommendation is that you stick around; you might be pleasantly surprised eventually. If you don't like the off-topics, simply hit the delete key.
