Actually, wouldn't it be more accurate to say that ALL of the drumming on The Sweetest Illusion was a mix of real and electronic? Is there a third kind? >Even some of the "real" drumming was a drummer playing MIDI triggers. AHA! Well, it WAS a drummer playing the instrument! How did this turn into an argument? Jeff, you win. I just know what sounds good to me and what doesn't. The original point I was trying to make--apparently not very clearly--was that the percussion on Clear Horizon *sounds* electronic to me (or more precisely, it sounds like drum machines trying to sound like real drums). I never got that feeling from Basia's other music. Oops! I said "drum machines" again. Sorry 'bout that. ;-) - -Brian* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Oct 1999 10:41:21 EDT From: Samurai27@aol.com Subject: Peter White concert Well I know that this is a Basia list but Peter White is family. Last night I attended the Peter White concert at IMAC (Intermedia Art Council) in Huntington, Long Island. There were two shows at 8PM and 10:30PM. It lasted about 100 minutes. It was simply great. The way he gets that instrument to sing is amazing. He played his usual list of greats; Marvin Gay,"Whats going on", Viewfrom the window, Prominade etc. He said this music, as radio calls it, "Smooth Jazz" is great because it brings everyone together. Different sizes, shapes, religions, race. Everyone was enjoying themselves. He will be back for the Christmas show at Westbury music fair in Dec. Both he, David Benoit, David Koz and a woman singer who I can't remember. Last year's show was great. If you are in the New York Tri state area you have got to check it out. In closing I was glad I attended last night especially with the great job my NY Mets have been doing. Peter keep up the good work. You obviously have a clear handle on what you like and do not like! "Natural" seems to be very important to our ears, regardless of how the music got to be "natural" sounding. As long as the music is "musical", who cares how it got that way! I was also at both of his shows last night at the IMAC, enjoying him all the way up from Texas and aside from the non-participant crowd, Peter was his usual glorious, melodic self...totally tight with the members of the band. I have not seen him so funky in a long time. His medley of The Bee Gees' "How Deep Is Your Love" from the first show into "Lullaby" was a total deviation from what was slated...he handled it with total professionalism, class and taste after the request from the audience of the 70's tune. He never disappoints his fans...the complete artist! He's appearing with Brenda Russell in that collaboration with Benoit/Koz...the now infamous Xmas tour. Don't miss it...its quite a tour..sure to be near you! The tour now appears in the upcoming fanclub newsletter. For info, contact PerfectCaravan@aol.com. Glad to see the cross-over Denis...you've got excellent taste in all your choices!
