BOB - has she ever taken a false note? 2Hz too much or too little to produce a crystal clear sound? Her accent is terribly funny, but her voice is impeccable. I thought only George Michael was able to do this kind of thing... I love the version of Cruising For Bruising that is included on the album. It's my favourite Basia song and it's differently arranged here. But overall the album doesn't sound very "live" - it's like the live Al Jarreau album (which was brilliant) that sounds like a proper studio recording until you read the liner notes. Basia, honeybee, do me a favour. Buy a CD with Polish fonts! The sticked apostrophes in the title of "Dzien Sie Budzi" look... cheap. I love the cover even although it looks like a dance record (have I mentioned how much I love dance records?) but this "typography" - hmm, I guess that there's nobody who'd tell our Basia that it's not exactly the way it's supposed to look. I just realised today that it's been 5 years since her latest studio album! I hope she turns into the direction Everything But The Girl chosen for their Temperamental album. I want my Basia dance! (And I'm the last person on the BasiaWorld who still hasn't heard the So Nice tune. Is it still available somewhere?) PS. Pet Shop Boys new album out at October 11th (Europe) and November 2nd (USA) is called Nightlife, it's my favourite album they have ever done (yes I know it's very off topic) and the US single of New York City Boy is the best value for money ever. (OK Meg, no more PSB mails) PPS. But watch out for their duet with Kylie Minogue. :) (-) Ray - -=[::: come.to\raynavarra ::: www.mp3.com\raynavarra :::::::::::]=- Number one this week: Pet Shop Boys "New York City Boy" ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 07 Oct 1999 08:55:38 -0300 From: Gerson.Paletti@Alcan.Com Subject: Hello again, it %s me! - --Boundary_(ID_dMNDpvy7T6ykQL0261h/gA) Content-type: TEXT/PLAIN; CHARSET=ISO-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 8BIT Hallo, It%s nice to be here again, after at least 3 years. Nice to know that people like you listen and like Basia%s songs. Only last saturday I bought the Clear Horizon CD and it%s was a big surprize when I listen "Whaters of March" (Águas de Março) Ton Jobin%s song. If you don%t know, Ton was the best Bossa Nova (new bossa) singer in Brazil and listen his CDs you will remeber Basia%s musics. Unfortunately he is dead now. Thanks Basia for do that, I mean, record Waters of March, to us, Brazilian people. Very simmilar to Ton Jobin is the singer Marisa Monte. Try to find some albun from here, if you like new bossa. And about Basia%s Tour? Brazil is there? South America? Hey! Hello! We are there! (or here!). Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo are waiting for you... About 2 months ago I couldn%t beleive when I listen on the radio that "Clan of Xymox" was to come to São Paulo. If you don%t know this band, try to listen some music. The first one of the group is the best. The show was great, but a little expensive (around US$ 30). Ray said that Pet Shop Boys will give us soon a new albun! I think that we (BR) will see and listen this CD in the next millenium only... Ray, if you want to change CDs (Brazilian music X PSB) please, just tell me. I want my Basia dance! Please no!!!! EBTG went from a very good adult contemporarysinger-songwriting duet to a pitiful computer-generated excuse for a band. It was over for them the day Ben Watt discovered a computer. I saw them on their Walking Wounded tour - the absolute worst concert I have ever seen. 3/4 of the music was canned, and Tracy Thorn acted wasted on stage. Terrible - had I been able to get a refund I would have been first in line. Let's all hope that Basia never sinks to their level (though So Nice has me worried....) I recommend that you verify that you have RealPlayer G2, which is compatible with mp3 files. If your RealPlayer is G2, you will see a large bold green "G2" on the black strip down at the bottom of your Realplayer. You can download G2 for free from the Realplayer site. Better yet, go to http://www.mp3.com and download their free version of MusicMatch Jukebox which is tailored for mp3 files. Most mp3 singles are from 3 to 5 meg in size. There is only the one song on this mp3 file. If you continue to have problems, Email me at my address below and I will help. I especially liked the horns that were substituted for the strings. Muy excellente. Hey, speaking of BOB, I saw Incongnito last Saturday and saw a few alum- Julian Crampton and Veronique DeMargary! Which Maysa introduced as "If you've heard Basia, you've heard Veronique!" Well, kinda. :) PS- I don't want to get too OT so I'll say no more, but if you want to hear about my wonderful Incog show just mail me! > Basia, honeybee, do me a favour. I love this album (to appease Jim, tho': overheard at work, "Is this Sade?" LOL) I also have a hard time joining the two bodies of work, I try to think of them as two different bands otherwise it bugs me. Funny, I had this conversation with a coworker yesterday. > PS. "Walking Wounded" sucked. That was such a let down from "Amplified Heart." I felt that it was released in a rush to capitalize on the success of "Amplified Heart," to use the formula that made "Missing" so famous over and over and over. Those drum tracks totally ruined the album, except for a couple of songs, namely "Mirror Ball." I heard a few songs off the new EBTG album, and they were awesome. I think I will pick it up tonight on my way home. And Basia doing "So Nice"--I'm glad she varied her music style a bit to do this dance number. It's nice to know that she has a few tricks up her sleeve--she's willing to try something different, so she won't keep churning out music that always sounds like the last Basia song. Don't worry, though--doing all dance wouldn't be her style. On a personal note, I'm going to leave this little oasis called Dayton in the desert of Ohio for the big time in Florence, KY. I recently got a job offer down in Walton, KY, with a Japanese-owned company that makes welding robot machinery for auto manufacturers. I'm so excited because it is so much more involved than the interpreting that I've been doing for my present company. My e-mail address will be the same, though. raburabu joe ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V4 #202 ***************************
