That way, the artist does not become inundated, but understands that we are thinking of her. Perhaps someone knows a person at Sony, or another artist, in whom we could have confidence to forward to the card to a legitimate address. I would certainly be willing to pick up a nice card. Just an idle thought... CDnow has agreed to merge with Columbia house, which is jointly owned by Sony and Time Warner. Merger will take place 4th quarter 1999. CDNW share price has dropped from $30 earlier this year to a current price of just over $11, and is still dropping (i.e. cheap). The new company will be owned 37% each by Sony and Time Warner. CDnow's existing shareholders will own the remaining 26%. Shareholders of CDnow will receive 1 share of the new company for each CDnow which they own at the time the merger takes place. Backed by Sony and Time Warner, the new company will combine e-commerce and direct marketing, and is very likely to be profitable, unlike CDNow which is losing money-lots of it. The affiliation with Sony and Time Warner should in itself be very good news for CDnow shareholders. My biggest concern is whether the new entity will lean more toward discount retail, or will be in a "record club" format (buy one get one free). The artists do not receive royalties on CD's "given away" by Columbia House. I hope this does not happen with the new outfit. Sorry to stray, but I thought this might interest some group members. I hardly think that she would be "inundated" if everyone on this list sent her a card. I mean, there aren't like "thousands" of us on this! :) I think that sure numbers of cards would tell her how much we appreciate her. Granted, she might not be able to open every card. But I think she would appreciate the gesture if everyone wanted to would sent her one. Any card she'd open she'd understand our love and devotion for it. Hell, sometimes I'm lucky if I get 2 birthday cards in the mail! :) raburabu joe ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Sep 1999 22:31:31 -0500 From: Robert Subject: Re: CDnow - OT As an aside... CDNow has Astrud Gilberto's 1994 remix of "Girl From Impanema" for $3.50 - It's a great disk, if you're into that kind of thing. - -Robert Jim Clary wrote: > Off Topic: CDNow > I am sure that most or all of you are familiar with CDnow, the online CD > retailer. But who knows?? Maybe they will.
