KICK A*S!! Cheesy j-pop and Basia all in one! What more can one ask for? I don't think it's anywhere near a Cher career revival thing. Just one of those things where a DJ or whoever says to themselves, "gee, wouldn't it be sweet to have Basia sing this Gilberto remake?" Smart thinking, that lad. Me gusta! - --Leslie (i always wanted her to sing with a shibuya-kei band myself, but I'll settle for this weird song) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? "So nice", I mean so easy... What a poor musical universe !!!. Violins and disco beat. Far from TSI... Economy ?? For lack of insparation ???. Definitively angry with Danny ???. But the voice is always here. Clear, powerfull...wheedlling. About the next album, duet with "Village People" ???. "--Leslie (i always wanted her to sing with a shibuya-kei band myself, but I'll settle for this weird song)" Shibuya-kei band? SHIBUYA-KEI band? What have you been smoking girl! :) What kind of outfit? What color wig would our Basia be wearing? I always loved how those Shibuya/Harajuku people in Tokyo would be like completely dressed in black, chains, and wigs in the middle of summer. But you've definately given me a thought of what Basia would look like and what she would be singing in Yoyogi park there. :) raburabu the shibuya-kei band groupie joe ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 Sep 1999 06:56:11 -0400 From: jp Subject: Re: ...and here's the Sony (Japan) URL, with sound clips!! Since I brought up the terrible remake of Last Kiss by Pearl Jam (GAG ME), Joe mentioned Hotel California. My girlfriend once heard a remake of this song by an R and B group. She claims it was the worst remake she had ever heard. I was at a local gas station filling up last week and the outside music system played a remake of the old Brook Benton song Rainy Night in Georgia, which is from about 1969 or so. It had an R and B singer and a country singer doing a duet. The R and B singer was giving it his gospel best, while the country singer was totally disinterested. This, as I found out, was piped in as part of their music system. It qualifies as the worst remake I have ever heard - absolutely horrible. I would have been embarrassed to have my name associated with it. Well, maybe not when the royalty checks came in. There are enough unheard songs out there to last a lifetime. Lots of obscure musicians come up with great tunes - this list sure knows that. But why do people remake other's signature songs? Beats me, especially when they destroy the original song. "Rainy Night in Georgia" is one of my favorite old R&B tunes. I wouldn't want to hear it botched up in a remake. That duo sounds like a marriage made in Hell. Hope I'm spared... I'm sure I speak for many members of this group when I say that I'm interested in anything that has to do with Basia's curves... If anyone is interested, my local Japanese bookstore said they can get copies of "Summer Samba", for about $15 each. Their delivery time is a little longer, however... they mentioned 4 weeks, though it's been my experience that they can often turn things around in 2 or 3 weeks. If anyone is interested, e-mail me privately, and I'll be happy to place an order for the group. Keep in mind that the single apparently only has one vocal version and one instrumental version, though-- so it's a little short for the price that you have to pay (not that that's ever stopped **me**, but I know everyone else isn't as crazy as I am!!) Just thought I'd let y'all know... - -Kevin soundman@inetarena.com JAZCAT99@aol.com wrote: > > This song has bounce! Sounds like it will be a hit if it gets released in > the US.
