As an Austinite, I find local commercial radio pretty horrific. 80% of my radio listening is the excellent public radio station KUT. 10% goes to KVRX/KOOP, the pair of stations that share 91.7. The final 10% is split among a few of the talk stations late at night when I like hearing conspiracy buffs go at it for entertainment value. Sorry to hear that your jazz favorite was gone. The jazz programming on KUT every afternoon at 3PM and Wednesdays from 8 to midnight is undoubtably much better. - ----- Original Message ----- From: Beverly Martin To: Sent: Sunday, 15 August, 1999 9:33 PM Subject: Horrors!!! > > I know I haven't been by the list lately (super busy!) but I must share this with > you: > > Here I am, driving to Austin (via San Antonio) and I'm looking forward to being > able to finally listen to the Jazz station there.... She promotes the lamest radio station here in Toronto. Music to snooze by, for sure. CHFI FM is so boring, there is barely a pulse, but sadly, it's popluar at dentist offices. I would love to hear Basia singing any of those songs (how about "Waters of March") in Portuguese! I'm sure she would sound as charming as her girl Astrud sounds in English. Eduardo, tudo bem! I have to tell you Portuguese is my FAVORITE language. I know a few key phrases, learned from an American friend who grew up in Brasil and is fluent. They are the kind you tell only to someone very special! I remember going crazy hearing Pele commenting in English during the world cup many years ago, where the depth and flavor of the Portuguese language accented his speech. Sexy! Enough. I'm going to search for some Gal Costa CDs online. Her Portuguese will turn you around! Meg _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. And in any case, I was driving at both 1p.m. and 11 a.m. so I completely missed the jazz times... *sigh* -- Beverly Martin Another radio format bites the dust in central/south texas... > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Beverly Martin > To: > Sent: Sunday, 15 August, 1999 9:33 PM > Subject: Horrors!!! > > > > > I know I haven't been by the list lately (super busy!) but I must share > this with > > you: > > > > Here I am, driving to Austin (via San Antonio) and I'm looking forward to > being > > able to finally listen to the Jazz station there.... Do you know how much I saw this advertised for a few months ago? (Let's just say I could buy many, many copies of LWNY for all my friends at that price) And you had it given to you! You should always go by this motto, created by moi: "Disco--God's gift to music." I ABSOLUTLELY love all of the disco grooves that are making it into music of recent years. I can go without the bell bottoms, drugs, fucky fashions, etc., but that music is golden, IMHO. I must add that Basia is ALSO a gift from God! raburaubu joe ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V4 #167 ***************************
