Howdy All! I'm kinda new to the list too. I came to love Basia's music rather late in life. My favorite tunes of hers are the one's with a lot of energy and a lot of instrumentation: A New Day for You, Cruising for Bruising, Drunk on Love, Freeze Thaw, Run for Cover, etc. I like some of the more tranquil tunes too: Astrud (because I really love Astrud Gilberto's music), Take Him Back Rachel (who was Rachel anyway??), and many others. I know everybody has different musical tastes, but I'd like to know what draws other people to Basia's music. Here's what really attracts me to her: - - musicality - - vocal range - - unique voice - - lyrical music - - musical variety - - the emotional crescendos/decrescendos I go through when I listen - - her accent! (I find it romantic and attractive, but I'm a male from the USA, what can I say?) Someone asked the other day what other singers have music similar to Basia's? That's not an easy question! She's kinda unique in the biz. Someone who's kind of obscure and is now starting to break through is Angela Higney (check out www.higney.com, or you can sample some of music for free at www.mp3.com, search for "Higney"). I like her music, but it doesn't have the benefit of a full production that Basia enjoys. I suspect it's because she hasn't hit it big yet and doesn't have the financial backing required for a full instrumental group. Someone else who's even more obscure is Joanna De Seyne. The few pieces I've heard of hers have been excellent, but really hard to find. I only have only one mp3 on my hard drive. Well...enough. It's nice to read all your comments.
