Thanks for the help! Monica San Diego, CA ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 09 Jul 1999 08:51:22 CDT From: "Meg Evans" Subject: Basia Moments RE: Richard's Cedar Point BASIA MOMENT!! Richard, that must have been absolute heaven! I occasionally hear Basia in the grocery store, in clothing stores, and I don't hesitate to sing along! Also, I must add my words of agreement about Swing Out Sister and Basia. They both, along with others certainly, have that unclassifiable feel to their music that, sadly, one doesn't hear ont he radio much. Ironically, it was Basia and Swing Out Sister (and Enya, Andreas Vollenweider, David Arkenstone, etc.) that our former "new age" radio station, WNUA, played at their very beginnings in 1988. I don't doubt they were singularly responsible for Basia-mania in Chicago, which grew to a fever pitch during the release of "The Sweetest Illusion." Their format has gone to overplayed pop/soft-rock type songs -- you probably can figure out which artists I am talking about. I STILL mourn the change in format, because so little of that "unclassifiable" music is played on the radio (at least in Chicago) anymore. To hear a single Basia song while strolling the aisles in a store is a heartening treat. To hear an entire CD while out a restaurant is rare, indeed! Lucky Richard. I did not purchase the CD; however, I did listen to it at this CD store where you can preview any CD and look at the liner notes and artwork. Luke T. Did anyone manage to record this BET appearance, Someone please enlighten us on this one! It seems to come from nowhere, and hasn't been confirmed by anyone on the ML at all. can't believe I missed something! > from the song she was supposed to do on Jay > Beckenstein's solo project? I think so- the website still lists her as a guest on the solo CD. But I haven't checked it in a while. One can hope! PS- the lyrics to 'Springtime Laughter' were not printed on the CD liner notes, whoever was wondering. :) > When we > reply to other people's posts, could we agree to not > quote the entire message? (LOL) The only time I'e ever really liked hearing her on piped in music. > Ironically, it > was Basia and Swing Out Sister (and Enya, Andreas > Vollenweider, David > Arkenstone, etc.) that WNUA played in 1988. I was on the contemporaryjazz.com chat area reading someone's opinion on the same subject. He thought it was really wrong of the radio scene to ditch Basia after TSI. Believe me, it was so nice to hear it come from the outside. Not in Detroit, either, sadly. I really, truly believe we may see a turning of the tide, however. Check out the aforementioned chat board, and you will find so many fans of the music thoroughly disgusted with the lack of variety, blandness, and general loss of spirit of "contemporary jazz" radio. And a lot of the music too. Hell, I'd like to see what a new Basia CD would do to the Paul Brown universe. Wake everyone up, maybe. But don't we all.
