I'm probably going to get myself into trouble for saying this, but I think some of Swing Out Sister's early songs have a similar feel. Currently, my favorite group is a Japanese band called "Dreams Come True." The vocalist, who occasionally sings in English (very fluent English) has a great voice. I'm not sure, but I think she might have recorded vocals on a Pat Metheny song. I only say that because there's a DCT song on which the guitar melody sounds a lot like Pat. Anyway, they're great. Check 'em out. - -Brian* mrmorton@mnet.ne.jp ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Jul 1999 20:34:39 +0900 From: "Brian Cundieff" Subject: Re: Basia on BET? Ohisashiburi! (Long time, no see!) My computer died in March, and I've finally replaced it. When I finally downloaded my mail, there were about 400 messages to sort through, mostly from this ML. I just deleted most of them, but I did catch a few interesting things I'd like to get brought up to speed on. #1. Did anyone manage to record this BET appearance, and has it been sent to Ben for digitizing? #2. About this new song on the Spyro Gyra CD, is this something different from the song she was supposed to do on Jay Beckenstein's solo project? #3. Uhhhh..... I forgot #3, but is there anything else of significant relevance (or relevant significance) I missed out on? Congrats to Thelma. Spread it around. Regards, - -Brian* mrmorton@mnet.ne.jp P.S.- A final request, which someone has doubtless suggested before: When we reply to other people's posts, could we agree to not quote the entire message? Some of us live in countries where even local calls are charged by the minute and it does add up. Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jul 1999 08:26:31 -0400 From: "Paul Fish" Subject: Re: Watch out, a newbie I'm probably going to get myself into trouble for saying this, but I think some of Swing Out Sister's early songs have a similar feel. Why should that observation get you in trouble? You're right. Swing Out Sister's vocalist does have the same sort of power and vocal intonation that Basia has. Especially if you listen to "Twilight World" or "Breakout". I've always liked Swing Out Sister. Wouldn't it be cool if Basia recorded a song with them? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jul 1999 08:30:07 -0400 From: "Paul Fish" Subject: Re: Basia on BET? - ---------- >#1. At Cedar Point of all places! (Cedar Point is a large Amusement Park in Sandusky Ohio for those of you who have never heard of it before). Anyway, during lunch after a fun morning of being scared out of my wits and having a blast on some of the best coasters in the world, my family and I went into a nice air-conditioned restaurant to eat lunch and what do I hear? You got it, The Clear Horizon album, .... loud enough to be heard for once too. My wife even noticed it! We were in the restaurant for over an hour and it was still playing. Soooo you never know where you will hear it. What a great way to relax after the morning traumas! (smile).
