Well, it could be a situation like with Dave Matthews Band where people do all that tape-trading jive. And they actually encourage it! Imagine that. - --Leslie _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ooo! Wouldn't it be something if we could do all that long interview stuff on one disc along with the videos, performances et al? (sorry Ben, a girl's gotta dream! ;) ) > > Thanks for your patience. > > We're Basia fans, how can we be anything but??? Yeah, no kidding. I guess, being the optimist here, there is one good thing about the video project delay: technology has gotten better for this sort of thing, I imagine, since 1996. > IS IT SUMMER YET!?!?!?!?! New video clip on BasiaWeb I actually have enough hard drive space to get the whole interview in my computer at once, something I couldn't do a year ago. Compressed with RealVideo G2, it would probably be about 80 megabytes -- plenty of room on the second (or third) CD for that. The trick is to capture that much video without dropped frames. Maybe I'll play with this tonight... there's nothing going on today, right? - -- Benjamin L. Leslie - thanks for your rebuttal to Joe's posting last week. I'm not going to get into it on the list, I don't think that's the proper forum in which to get into a pissing contest. But since you responded quite eloquently, I have a couple points for you. I have learned this from my years of being a sports fan, and it applies to my store as well: if you say to the umpire, Hey ump, that was a shitty call, well, that's one thing, but if you say to him, Hey ump, you're a shithead, you are going to get tossed from the game. If a customer starts directing that kind of language towards me, I will probably ask him to leave my store. I have never slammed anyone on the list for their opinions, as I am pretty opinionated, too. Obviously I will disagree with what people say, but I've found people on this list to be very open-minded about such things. If you recall, I was rather negative towards dance music, but I never knocked Ray or anyone else for liking it. If I think they are full of beans for having this opinion, fine, but they can feel the same way about me. Besides, my best friend and I have argued the merits of Aerosmith (they suck - he lives & dies with 'em!) since college, 20 years ago. I also belonged to another list for a short time in which the members all fawned over the artist until it was sickening. I had to leave! Again, in sports and at my store, if you don't praise or criticize when appropriate, the praise and criticism become meaningless. Hey, I love Basia as much as anyone on this list, but I feel she was due for criticism for her Greatest Hits collection. I felt she was capable of much better. To say it was great would be inaccurate, and while most people on the list really enjoyed it, I was disappointed by it, both personally and critically. I did have four different people (who normally "lurk") e-mail me with the same feelings. I totally agree with you that we have to respect each other's opinions, even though we don't agree with them. The woman I have been dating recently and I have been very good at "agreeing to disagree". We realize that we won't see everything the same. In fact, we are saving the Hilary Clinton "discussion" for a time where we have a couple hours! I think we're both looking forward to that! I really enjoy the people on this list. I think it was WAY COOL that the Ohio bunch met a while back. I feel like I have some new friends. Ashoke's writings are incredible, and I've enjoyed chatting with you and Meg, both on and off the list. If Basia ever tours again, and comes to Buffalo (she has the past tours), I'd love to hold a get-together of the same sort. Thanks for listening to me ramble. Good luck on your job hunt now that you have graduated! Jim P. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 May 1999 12:17:54 -0700 (PDT) From: Leslie Brown Subject: Re: Whoa!
