She has a very strong (and very low) voice. Her sound is slightly bizarre and her choice of repertoire is unique. In addition to some originals, she covers tunes by musicians as diverse as Hank Williams, Hoagy Carmichael, Neil Young, and U2. I can only describe this music as off-the-wall jazz. I, too, would recommend it to Basia fans (keeping in mind that Basia and Wilson are still quite different from each other). - -- Thomas R. Okay, so it's a little slow right now. Eventually the conversation will come alive again. How can it not on THIS list? :) Ashoke (who really is alive, or so he thinks) writes: >Anyway, couldn't resist this one: > >>If you could ask Basia one question, what would you ask. > >"Would you like to dance?" Now that's not fair! I mean, I can't go up to Basia and ask her if she'd like to dance. Hmmmm. Well then, I'll ask her hunky boyfriend if he can dance. (Eat your heart out, Ashoke! You, too, Joe.) I had the experience of hearing Cassandra a couple years ago, at the Concord Fujitsu Jazz Festival. She has a voice that is capable of great expression and beauty, but that particular evening she chose material that was "so far out there" that I fell asleep because it was unrelatable. Therefore I have mixed feelings about Cassandra Wilson. I have heard good things on the radio from her and heard junk in a live performance. Hi, everyone. I am new to this list. Please bear with me. I hope I'm doing this right. I would ask Basia this.... "You're the greatest singer!!!. Basia....I'll be in London for a vacation from Nov. 4-17, 1999. Are you doing any shows around London where we (myself, my husband and my sister) can see you or at least get your authograph?".
