I was chatting with a fellow Basia fan and he suggested to me that I check out a singer named Cassandra Wilson. I guess she has a couple CD's out, the one he suggested is New Moon Daughter. Can anyone tell me anything about her? As Buffalo is a radio wasteland, I have never heard of her. Plus, I could hear the song before the release. :D Plus, I could remix it, which is the main part! She's super-critcally-acclaimed, some say she's one of the best jazz singers of this generation. I myself have never heard her music. But that's some background for ya! - --Leslie (yes, it has ben quiet...) NEW ADDRESS!! marzenie_99@yahoo.com _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Great to see everyone's still with us. Me, i'm barely with anything now...need more sleep... I keep telling myself, "only 2 more weeks..." Okay, so the question. well, I've always wondered how hard/not hard it must be to be so personal lyrically. Do these songs become hard to sing? (her being so prone to tears and all... I know how *that* is ) What do her subjects think about being a subject? I've always been amazed at how much she opens up to her audience. It's one of the reasons I've always been *such* a fan . - --Leslie (I hope I'm making sense!) You really must listen to Cassandra Wilson, a truly wonderful voice, if you like sensuous, smoky sounding vocals with a seriously neat twist on all kinds of material, ranging from jazz standards through to original stuff and on to pop classics. As a personal recommendation, I would go for Blue Light 'til Dawn. Much more 'hard to listen to' jazz than Basia, but worthwhile.
