Duesenberg was an automoblie manufacturer in the twenties here in the USA. They made the frames and engines, then the movie stars and all the other rich people would buy the frame and engine and have a "coach house" make them a custom body. These cars are elegent, absolute beauty. Duesberg bosted 100+ MPH in second gear which was unheard of at that time. Today they are rare and expensive. Basia music is a real duesy! We've been swamped and I haven't been able to read my Basia posts or contribute for quite a while. Ben, is the compilation available yet? Not rushing you... I've just been out of the loop for awhile and curious. Thanks! Sorry I've been away from the computer for a while but I've been busy at work. Please, what happened to the MP3 archive? There was probably a posting about it but I must have missed it. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Mar 1999 22:04:31 -0800 From: Joanna Lee & Larry Churchill Subject: Re: basia-digest V4 #63 Ashoke is back in Cleveland as of last weekend. We didn't get together for sushi in San Diego two weeks ago :( but he did visit SF with other friends [I was not around, :( again] and loved it. So, I trust he will be back on the left coast soon and then we can plan the REAL Basiacon99 NorCal. Those of you in Northern California, stay tuned and speak up if interested! I just returned from San Diego where I was organizing a conference and just HAD to share my two Basia moments with the list. In the midst of one of our (slightly boring) policy discussions, the group across the way took a break and their A/V company put on music during the break. I could hear a strong bass line and feel the thumping but didn't recognize the tune. Our client rushed up to me and said "Get them to turn the music down!" So I run across the hall into the other room, only to hear "How Dare You" blaring from the speakers! Just imagine that bass line, "doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doop...doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo-doop..." When the song ended I automatically "heard " in my head the intro to "Miles Away," and they DID have T&T on the CD so, I got to hear Miles Away! The next day one of the muzak tunes caught my ear...a version of "Third Time Lucky!" What a trip! Of course they also butchered many other classic rock tunes by U2, REM, Shawn Colvin, etc...I'm SO glad to be out of there! Anyway, I did speak to Ashoke and I'm sure he will pop back up on the list any day now. He is probably still reading the 2,357 e-mail messages he received while he was gone.
