Oh, this could be a great thing for the Tribute album indeed! :) I'm currently taking part on Pet Shop Boys tribute album, still can't find time to record my vocals for the Suzanne Vega tribute (I do "Rusted Pipe" btw) and now there's Basia in the house! :D Just as it wasn't enough, I'm currently downloading hundreds of megabytes of instruments for the program I use (FastTracker). The songs will go on and on! :) Meg: if you wish to sing on the track, I'd like you to send me the vocals in either: 1. WAV files 2. MP3 files (preferred) 3. CD-R recorded The tape simply won't be ~enough of a quality. > Also, Ray: a big, belated THANK YOU for all the interviews you've > translated. And here's to that "letter writing campaign." I think for me, the difference is that when I hear something on the radio it is a surprise. Also, I know that hundreds or thousands of people are also listening at the same time. Blame the exams! >I've never heard of Diane Warren. Who has recorded songs of hers? Celine? >Ack! Yeah, and think of all the schlocky singers you can. She's probably written songs for them. Michael Bolton and Kenny G type of folks. And the industry just kisses her butt- she always gets piles of songwriting awards and Grammies. So, if Basia were to sing one of her songs, it would be practically guaranteed to propel her into the public eye. Awards and the whole shot. But- luckily- Basia realised her songs suck. So she didn't go that route. >I'd give three pints of blood to see her record collection. I imagine it to be really nutty, considering what she talks about listening to... >Just one of the reasons we love her. ;-) Yeah! I am impressed that she is giving up the possibility of more exposure and such in favor of having songs she believes in. Who has recorded songs of hers? Celine? >Ack! A quick bit of research on Ms. Warren includes the following tunes: Time, Love, and Tenderness, & When I'm Back On My Feet Again - Michael Bolton Heart With Your Name on It, & Reach - Gloria Estefan If You Asked Me To & Nothing Broken But My Heart, & Because You Loved Me (among others) - Celine Dion Look Away & Explain it to My Heart - Chicago I know that many other groups and singers have recorded her songs. She actually is a talented writer (now Leslie don't hurl now!) and has won several Grammys. Unfortunately, a winning pop formula these days is Celine singing a Diane Warren song with David Foster producing. But in defense of these people, Foster actually does a better job with rock acts (see St. Elmo's Fire soundtrack). And while I also am totally sick of Celine, with all her songs seemingly a show of lung power, I thought If You Asked Me To was a terrific song. When she "sings", she is wonderful. It just seems that Celine, Whitney, and Mariah are all trying to outdo each other. One of them will pop a blood vessel if they don't stop the competition.
