Come on! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jan 1999 06:47:58 PST From: "Leslie Brown" Subject: the Danny/Matt Bianco thing Someone asked about this, and I thought I'd add my 20 cents (as usual): This is the story as I understand it. Danny was a member of a band called Bronze in the early 80's. Their vocalist, Tessa Webb, was apparently leaving, so Danny placed an ad for a new female vocalist in Melody Maker. This band was pretty serious & seeking a record deal. Meanwhile, Basia was looking for some cash, and saw Danny's ad and then responded. She didn't have a demo or anything so apparently Danny wasn't too impressed with her or her singing. She decided to make a demo tape. The engineer at that session was Warne Livesey, who I believe played bass in Bronze. Well, Warne decided that Basia was perfect! And the rest is history... Bronze couldn't get a record deal so they broke up. Danny did his thing in Blue Rondo A La Turk (where he met Mark Reily & Kito Poncioni) and Basia, stll married to the Talk Talk guy did some jingles & whatnot. Then Danny, Mark & Kito formed Matt Bianco and asked Basia to come aboard. And I believe that's the story, folks! :) - --Leslie ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jan 1999 06:57:13 PST From: "Leslie Brown" Subject: Re: (no subject) >> Jack Sprat?? Talukdar" Subject: Catching up on the threads... Hi gang! I have been a bit swarmed with different tasks. I signed on the dotted line yesterday for a new position at MetroHealth Medical Center (where I currently work), which is a SUBSTANTIAL jump in every way. Hence, things have been a tad busy! Ok they have been "driving me insane" busy. Between that and going out to dance on Sunday night and getting mercilessly groped and fawned over by hideous drag-queens (to quote Meg, GACK!), I am somewhat dysfuntional right now! :-D But here goes... First of all, Ray, at the risk of sounding like the inane Natalie Merchant song, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! :-D BTW, your TSI prescription with some wine did wonders. I of course improvised - I added a hot tub and a few other thing... :-D. Thanks. About this whole Basia and Danny white thing, I knew a while ago that she and Danny were not an item any more and I have long since held the opinion that they made the most adorable couple and should have stayed together, if for nothing else other than to create some beautiful babies. Sigh! I second Meg on the Poland-trip-dream-sequence. I probably would go to Warsaw mainly to try the local food and then I would take to the road and visit obscure places. Oh BTW Ray, can I use your place as the home base? I can cook some Indian for you! :-D Leslie, girlfriend put your shields down. I agree with you. It would be nice if she were on the internet, but she ain't - what can we do? Actually I am somewhat glad that she is not. I am also on the Suzanne Vega list (like Ray) and I notice a substantial difference in the two lists. Usually, the posts on the SV list by various people tend to be a little more "abstract" and a little less personal. Mainly because, Suzanne herself is a diligent reader AND contributor to the list. Whereas that's great, however, I don't think that on that list, there is such possibilities of starting personal friendships as here. Her presence makes the list a truely excellent forum for information and opinion sharing, while Basia's ABSENCE makes this list a place to bring her fans together in a somewhat personal way. The other reason that I have is a little harder to explain. Agnieszka (my coworker) asked me if she could translate one of my Chronicles and send it to Basia. I had to sit down and spend some time thinking about WHICH ONE - there are several intensely personal reflections, and, as devoted to Basia as I am, I would still be somewhat self-conscious about having her read some of them. Along the same veins, I would probably have been a bit restrained in opening myself up, if I KNEW that she was reading them! Also, Leslie thanks for that cute link. I agree - that impish grin suits him so much (like he was sharing in a naughty joke during a funeral service or graduation or something)! :-D BTW, since I can't read a word of Polish, can someone tell me what's going on in the picture - is there something about that in the text? (Ray: hint, hint!) Linda wrote: > >>I add my thanks to Ray. I'm glad we are able to talk frankly about her music, for if she were on this list, I'd be afraid to say anything bad about her--"Oh, I don't like this song," "I really really wish you'd put out a CD," yada yada yada. I would phrase it more like an epiphany, where the thought I needed to have (be it to clear my mind, or organize my thoughts) came to me through Basia. It happened to me about six months ago at my second job, I was humping to beat a deadline on an ad when the system crashed. As I was grumbling and cussing I heard "Time and Tide" on the radio -- and by getting to focus and enjoy that I was able to resume my task in a better state of mind. That's the power of Basia's music for me. Some days before I start my regular job I play a few tunes: Yearning, Go For You, etc. and it's gets me pumped up and focussed. -- Beverly Martin ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V4 #20 **************************
