Some discussion ensues about Basia's lovely references to natural remedies in "Yearning:" ><< Basia is talking about Bach Flower Remedies, i.e. "Tender feelings heal > with flowers when your woes and sorrows leave you overwhelmed" >> > >Hmm, maybe so. But Oscar Wilde said something similar in "Dorian Gray" when >Dorian eased his mental pain one day by burying his nose in a bunch of lilacs; >Lord Henry approves, saying, "Nothing can cure the soul but the senses, just >as nothing can cure the senses but the soul." Ms. Basia must be well familiar with those natural remedies. Indeed, essence of willow is recommended for people who are feeling bitter, wild rose for those feeling helpless, and star of bethlehem for "uncompleted mourning." (I'm still attempting to verify sunshine wattle, which I can't seem to find in any of the health or homeopathic stores around here.) All the feelings she describes at the beginning of "Yearning" could likely be what she felt after leaving her home and attempting to feel grounded elsewhere in the world. She seems to have finally found her "home," but it never hurts to keep a few flower essences in the house when something ails you. I am sending Desert Alchemy's "New Mother" (a combination of essences) to my friend, who is a new mother, and believe it or not I also found another combination essence called "Single Mother." I'll be using that generously! Enough. HI! That's a good point. The essences mentioned in "Yearning" are, in fact, Bach Flower Remedies, which I had been experimenting with for a few months when the TSI album was released. (This was also my first exposure to Basia and needless to say I have been a huge fan since, having to travel backward in time to find out what she released previously, who she was, where she came from, etc. I'm up to date now thanks in large part to this list.) You made a good point because I noticed that when I used the flower essences I was not keeping flowers in my home as much and when I had the house filled with flowers and herbs growing outside, I did not even think to use the essences as much. If anyone is interested in reading more, below are two interesting sites: http://www.interlog.com/~tpenn/fr/default.html#BFR http://www.perelandra-ltd.com/ And I still have no idea what Sunshine Wattle is. Ciao Linda p.s. they play Basia music in the malls and foodstores in central NJ :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 11:16:21 PST From: "Leslie Brown" Subject: Re: basia-digest V4 #11 Okay, sorry, it's not in my character to offer up such a completely reverse opinion to those on the list, but I guess now my time is due.
