It's the black and white one that I referred to in the letter that you excerpted. Evidently the CD version of "Time and Tide" from Holland had a different cover than the vinyl LP did, because the cover shot I was referring to (which I have not yet posted to the discography) is *distinctly* different from the other three that you listed (all of which I've seen). And, current copies of "Time and Tide" available in Japan now use the European "head in hand" shot that you remember so well :^) Hope that clears things up! - -Kevin PS: Glad you had a nice trip... (I think she difinitely has shown more confidence since then) I especially liked the end when apparently the interviewer asked her how she thought of her success and she got all cute and blushing. I just wanted to hug her. :) >She is absolutely stunning in "Baby You're Mine". I second Brian's >sentiments - THOSE EYES!!! Makes you speechless, eh? She does have beautiful eyes. The dancers were pretty cool too, and I like the concept of her imagining herself in this situation. However, my favorite video was "Cruising for >Bruising". It was excellently put together and what a cute idea to make >Danny play the part of the ex! Danny is one hell of a brave guy for doing that, I think. It's a pretty freaky situation to have to sort of recall in a video. Talking about Danny, I think he is a doll! Hee! My best buddy in high school and I had a thing for Danny back then. He has a really striking look. I actually - probably 5 or 6 years ago - did a woodcut of him (from the inside of the TSI program- hey, I hadn't figured out yet that you SHOULDN't copy pictures verbatim!) and he was really suited to the high-contrast nature of that medium. Plus I really loved that pic. ^_^ > >I was surprised to find that she lives with Kevin Robinson - I did not know >that. Dude, when you see the videos for Drunk on Love and Third Time Lucky, you will definitely see it. he is alll over those two vids, and I think he's in Yearning too (but I was too stunned by the Howard Greenhalgh directing to pay attention). She was in People back when TSI first came out just fawning over him. Sooo cute. She said that Yearning and My Cruel Ways were inspird by him, but if you ask me the whole TSI album is. Just my opinion though. :) And if she is in her forties, wouldn't it be a little dicey to have >children (she says she wants to in the Radio Zet interview). She's actually 39, so it wouldn't be too far out there. Actually, weirdly enough, a good friend's mother just had a child at 42. Of course, there is that 23 year age difference between the baby and my friend, but still... I actually >have a favor to ask: can someone please identify him (Kevin) is he the one playing the trumpet in "Prime Time TV"? Yup. Also in Promises doing the instrument shuffle, and Until You Come Back To Me for about 5 seconds each shot tossing a ball in the air while waiting for his solo, and looking quite well-muscled while eating something out of alunimum foil like a fool. Third Time Lucky is a definite Kevin lovefest-when oh when will they release *those* videos? (I mean commercially of course). Oh yeah, and he is on the cover of Incognito's "Tribes Vibes and Scribes" CD (on the far right looking a little pale and elongated ) and on the inside of Positivity. It's definitely worth noting his playing. He has been all over stuff out of England for a while- check out the All-Music Guide and you'll see what I mean. When Basia said that it was difficult to come together at the right time- considering the date of the interview, she wasn't kidding- that year he sessioned on Paul McCartney's Flaming Pie CD, and toured with Steve Winwood. Poor Basia. So far this year he's been on studio work from Lauryn Hill (so is Fayyaz Virji- but they are waaay underutilized in my opinion- bunch of toots on "The Final Hour" and a few interludes- yay.) and Howard Jones- and with a band called Inner Shade which is dated 1999, so maybe it'll come out at the beginning of the year (and if you check out the lineup, it's basically Incognito without Bluey Maunick or Richard Bull). (This is all from the All Music Guide too, BTW.) He does great work I think- I checked out his work intrigued by the whole Basia thing and turned out he is quite a player. If you can find it, a great example is Snowboy's "Ritmo Snowbo" - much more jazz than pop by far, and he even does some background vocals. His compositional contributions are darn good too- a bunch of early Incognito was co- written by him. And he more often than not arranges brass on the tracks he sessions on. Or consider this- he's the guy responsible for the chorus of An Olive Tree and its insane time signature (have any of you seen the sheet music for this? Oy.) Actually the whole Basia/Incognito connection has made me a fan of a lot of those players- as you can tell, I'm starting to amass waaay to much info about them. :) But anonymous as so many of these guys are, they pretty much make the jazz/funk/whatever sound out of London. All those groups really overlap. - --Leslie *whew* ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Dec 1998 16:35:01 EST From: Samurai27@aol.com Subject: Re: New Day Video and Mr. Robinson Actually regarding the age a women should have a baby; besides the medical risk when ever she's ready. Mike: The full length Japanese version of the "Clear Horizon" CD (Sony/Epic ESCA-7395) is encoded in the CD-Text format, which allows for ongoing text display while the disc is playing (in a compatible CD-Text player-- there are still not very many of these on the market). As I don't have such a player yet, I have not been able to verify what the text content is, though I suspect it's song titles, and possibly lyrics. There is no actual bonus track (music or CD-ROM video) on the disc, however. I've been rather busy lately so I haven't had a chance to drop a line out to the list - however a few things caught my attention so I figured I'd take this chance to let you all know I'm still here - lurking and enjoying all your posts... It's really great to see the "international" flavor of our postings - proving once again how truly worldwide is the appeal of Basia's music. I love it! :) Tomasz, thank you for the translation of that insightful interview! Basia seemed to be quite forthcoming - which is nice. She has been rather coy about Kevin Robinson in the past, so it was interesting to see what she had to say about him. I also found her thoughts about her work ethic fascinating. I have seen it said that Danny "cracks the whip" in the working partnership - Hmmm, gives one pause to think about that, doesn't it? :) Ashoke asked: >Did anyone else notice how SHY she is >in the interviewed clips - she rarely looks at the interviewer! Yes, I noticed that from the very first time I saw that video. I had the vid long before I had the most extraordinary fortune to meet Basia in person, so I was expecting her to be a little shy when I met her - and it's true, she is quite endearingly shy - however she was naturally a bit more comfortable amongst her peers as opposed to when she was in a group of strangers (as in the meet-n-greet the label had arranged after the show). Her "shyness" or genuine modest behavior and almost embarassed acceptance of applause during a show is also quite apparent. I was impressed by that long before I ever got a chance to meet her. Ashoke also notes: >However, my favorite video was "Cruising for >Bruising". It was excellently put together and what a cute idea to make >Danny play the part of the ex! I also thought that was effective. Danny plays the part well (partly from experience, I think!) (HA!)...
