Tokyo's coolest FM station has published this week's chart, and "Clear Horizon" (the single) moved up nicely this week, to #40, in its second week on the chart. Incidentally, I should also point out that Sony (Japan)'s website did mention that this was the *first* single from the LP... can we dare hope for more? I am! - -Kevin (Who'd like to thank everyone for the discography additions, and who promises to get them to Beverly [with pictures] *sometime* soon...) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 07:04:46 EST From: Richard216@aol.com Subject: Re: basia-digest V3 #271 I have finally been energized again! After listening to Clear Horizon for the first time in my car coming home from Borders, I had that same inner feeling of joy, warmth, happiness and awe that I had the first time I heard Basia sing. I found myself smiling, "bopping" from side to side, and touched inside with rush of emotions that is hard to describe. Anyway, I absolutely love all of the new songs and can't wait until the new album comes out. I am thankful that the songs are true to the Basia/Danny style but unique enough to be incredibly interesting in their differing textures. Genius, absolute genius. One has to appreciate the effort and talent that is involved in composing music like this. Excellent work! I too thank Ashoke for his words of wit and wisdom with respect to the new album, I couldn't have expressed it better. Thanks Asoke, can't wait to meet you. She is "the best seenger...in the whooole world! Or a lot better than you anyway, eh?" :-D I swear, that comedian- whatever her name is- does that waaay too well! Nevertheless, Celine makes me completely ill. Just think, it could've been Basia, in a weird alternative universe. As much as we gripe about obscurity, I'd take that anyday over the Celine syndrome. But with the number of albums Celine has put out, she will be livng in high style when she becomes an international joke. Hee, can't blame her though, I'd sure milk it for all it's worth! - --Leslie, just glad Basia doesn't get made fun of ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 01 Dec 1998 07:32:45 PST From: "Leslie Brown" Subject: JWave1 JWave! >...well, the Japanese chart at J-WAVE, anyway... Actually I have another addition for the Compilation section- a weird vinyl compilation made for British DJs with 'New Day for You' on it. I've got to get the numbers together though. - --Leslie ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 01 Dec 1998 10:25:12 -0600 From: Beverly Martin Subject: Re: "Clear Horizon" moving up the chart... A while ago, I heard a duet by Celine Dion and Barbra Streisand. Streisand? What was she thinking??? Oh HOW the mighty have fallen since those glorious "Yentl" days. Now about that song - if you could concentrate a metric ton of Equal into each word of a song, you are getting close to approaching the sugariness of that song. Blech! I would take obscurity for dearest Basia any day. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 11:48:15 -0500 From: "Ashoke S. Talukdar" Subject: Re: That Basia feeling... Hi gang: Thanks for all your positive comments! I am glad we share these sentiments about Basia. Marianne wrote: > >I agree! If Basia plays Cleveland, we all ought to get seats together. > You know, I couldn't agree more. Earlier this year I was watching a bootlegged video tape of a Suzanne Vega concert. During the concert, at one point, she introduced a song saying "and this song is for a special group of people in the audience - you know who you are". And then she sang "Undertow". I almost cried - would have gladly given half my life to have been there. You see, "Undertow" is also the name of Suzanne's mailing list! So you can't IMAGINE, what a thrill it would be to go to a Basia concert with you folks. > >Would definitely be worth a trip for me! So I would have ZERO problems driving or flying out there to see her and any and all of you who are willing to go. They once did a version of Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise" and I thought it was an orchestra, until the radio announcer said it was 6 guys! Anyway, I would love to hear them cover "Go for you" with a zillion-part harmony. Acapella, of course. Ashoke. ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V3 #272 ***************************
