Clear Horizons _is_ out in the Netherlands! It's just that no publicity is given to its appearance. Weird. You'd think they would do so just to try and get the Dutch to appreciate or at any rate know Basia's (and Danny's) talents. But no. Less talented but commercially more promising artists are given preference. No wonder I had to go to a special import store to get this album. They at any rate knew instantly whom I was talking about. Lately, I've been thinking of writing to Sony/Epic NL to ask how many Basia CDs they've sold around here, from T&T to BoB. I'd like to know the extent of her following in Holland. Anyway, bought the album (only one in the store, by the way). Perhaps I'm the only one, but I rather like the stark design of the disc. Its colour reminds me of my favourite song, Waters of March. Liked the idea of printing only the lyrics of the "new" songs in the inlay; all her fans have the other texts anyway (and can sing along to them by heart, I guess; I can, anyway...). About the music: Techniques must have improved greatly over recent years, for even the oldest songs sound very crisp. Whereas I really need to put the volume up (and then down again) whenever I play T&T and then, for instance, TSI separately. Like the way the new songs are spread over the disc; thought has been given to that. It's not just a compilation of 3 songs from T&T, 4 from LWNY, 4 from TSI, 2 from BoB and the 4 new ones added to the end (these aren't the actual numbers). Like most of you, I prefer "Go for You" to "Clear Horizon", although I can see why Sony's chosen the latter for the single CD; ballads (pardon my French, but it's the nearest I could get to a description) like this one are sort of popular these days. But having heard this song 3 or 4 times over the past 2 days (along with the rest of the album), I've begun to appreciate it better. Yet my favourite remains "Waters of March", which I bellow along to regularly. You should see the "dismay on the faces" of my housemates! I'm half expecting a "shot of the gun in the dead of night"... Anyhow, this CD has given me the strength to wait another year for the really new album. Looking forward to it already... Herlin" Subject: New CD; Web-page Update Fellow fans, I finally got a chance to add the new release to my Ratings & Reviews page (http://www.diac.com/~herlin/ratings/basia.htm). If these new tracks are any indication of the kind of work our Polish diva's doing on her next album, we're all in for a real treat. BTW, *Clear Horizon* was released on the biggest CD release date in the industry. Did anybody rush out to buy anything other than the Basia disc? Not me! Subject: Club chat Just a reminder for anyone interested, there will be a chat at Basia club today at 4:00pm EDT (1:00pm PDT). I was "reminded" of a previous commitment and can't make this one, so if someone attending can post a quick synopsis either at the club or here I'd appreciate it. Thanks! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Nov 1998 11:49:58 PST From: "Leslie Brown" Subject: Re: Clear Horizon AND BONUS TRACKS? >Stumbled across this UK store listing "Clear Horizon And Bonus Tracks" >imported by Pinnacle Imports. I TRUST they are just referring to the new >songs as "bonus tracks". Hmmm... isn't the ESCA prefix on Japanese releases? If so i would not be suprised if there WERE bonus tracks- they always get the cool stuff (like the single- I know I keep harping on it but I WANT!! ^_^) But at 73 minutes I doubt they could have fit any more songs on. Hmmmm.... wouldn't it be cool though. - -Leslie ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Nov 1998 20:02:25 -0000 From: "Andy Fribbens" Subject: Re: Club chat How do you join the club Andy - -----Original Message----- From: Rob B. First, my English is poor, second, my "net abilities" as well. I read your post and wanted to join but--shame to say--I was afraid. You've heard this before, I'm sure, but let me express this from my own--it will make me feel much more better: I'm in love with Basia's music, texts, her talent. I was not able to reach "Clear Horizon" yet--my work doesn't allow me to go to the nearest bigger town too often (I'm a priest), so I read your opinions by now. Sorry for my question (I didn't read the list archive...)-- but can I contact in some way with Basia?
