Thanks Ben (Benn?), I guess it shows how familiar (or interested) the critics are with her history and music. BTW- In the "narrow minded" category, we have the 2029 members of myLAUNCH (listed as one of the best music magazines) who rated Basia a 2 (pretty bad) out of 7. Obviously they only attract fans of Marilyn Manson. To all those who have stopped by Yahoo's Basia club - I'm glad you like it! Please don't hesitate to make suggestions on improvements. IMHO the song is absolutely perfect for her and I >can't wait to hear her rendition. Yup. It is good. I actually like the song anyway, and I think Basia does a great job with it. (Although I personally like the David Byrne/Marisa Monte version better) It's arranged along the lines of "Third Time Lucky," if that's any indication. >Sade influence in her style or anything else. Don't you think MAYBE >Astrud Gilberto would be a more likely candidate? Hee, I saw everyone jumped on you for that, so I won't :) Seriously, you're right, of course! I personally hear Donald Fagen in there too , especially in her phrasing. Also Stevie Wonder, on the phrasing issue. Definitely NOT Sade!!! :) Leslie (kinda wishing Jobim was still with us still) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Nov 1998 14:52:23 PST From: "Leslie Brown" Subject: Re: new album release >And there WILL be a new WHOLE ALBUM in 1999 - This is NOT a substitute. Regarding the earlier suggestion she get together with Tom for an album - sorry, far too late, since he hasn't been down to breakfast for a few years, now. Tati is from Ipanema, actually. She studies pre-Med, and I think doesn't have much time for this stuff anymore. Phil (listening to bug music over and over and over and over and.......) All that energy "once again for some" no doubt wasted on negative thoughts. Makes me glad I am so optimistic. A lot of the joy in life comes from the process of desire. i.e. new material in '99'. And on the topic of joy, many of you that share your life on this forum are really well read. I sometimes feel inadequate until I remember that ignorance is bliss and I "KNOW" that for myself as you have only heard the phrase. I do enjoy your insightful thoughts and have had many smiles as I read. My Mom passed away in Feb. after being a stroke victim of 4 years. She could not talk to me but her humor was keen to the end. One day I had misplaced something and I "overdramatically" looked for it in front of her. When I found it I went to her wheelchair and said "There are people who know where everything is in their home. They think that to live like me is a sad experience. They never know the joy of finding something. Sure they think it is a waste of time but it is still "joy"". She was an example of optimism and laughter to the end. She honestly laughed with me and then I left the room and returned in less than 5 minutes to her having departed this earth life. I desire the same plethora of joy in my life. So much for my own little chronicle. Thanks for listening. I promise not to take your time for such a "off the topic" topic.
