Yeah, Basia was singing in Matt Bianco in 1984 but Sade did come out in 1985 (after being in a group, like Basia), so I guess technically Sade would be first if we're counting who went solo first. But I don't ever remember Basia herself saying Sade was an influence- only the music press because when Basia began her solo career, she was (wrongly) seen as part of the Sade trend in female vocalism. Personally I think the idea of Sade being an influence is just being assumed. >Secondly I have found a CBS video titled "Prime Time" listed under some >Basia discographies but not available, or without a number. As a devoted fan, I have already acquired all by one of the new songs and doubt if I would buy it unless the cd cover is new. The excitement is great for us as it keeps her image alive and well to the general public however the radio station will not really have anything new to play. If I had the new/old songs than they also had access to them and I have not heard Angel Blush or Waters of March on my local smooth jazz station. I really hope that the SONY marketing folks are not trying to pull a fast one on us die-hard Basians and push this project out the door as "the new Basia CD" and it takes another 4 years to get another. But seriously folks, it's great for the music world that she keeps in the eyes of the general public but for us Basia Professionals, it's not much. I have most of the greatest hits on 2-3 other cd's concurrently counting different track versions. Am I the only one that feels this way? Sorry. Hey, man, it's understandable. Personally i am worried about the status of the 1999 work but hey, once we find out we will all feel a bit better and the pessimism can cease. Personally I am excited about the release, because it means 2 songs I sure haven't heard, new pics, possibly new explanations on the personal tip (always an ingredient of her work which I like), and hopefuly more press and exposure to boot. I am a bitt annoyed that the same songs just keep coming back to *haunt* us (sorry, bad pun), but I can just imagine what she and Danny are coming up with now as we speak. Plus sounds like so much is going on for both of them personally that they need to kinda concentrate on those things first. I mean, is Danny going to want to tour with a newborn at home? Uh, I imagine not. Also, , in her later intrviews Basia has mentioned wanting to have another child (in the Polish radio intrview I could decipher that she hopes she and Kevin can have a child, and that she would like a girl since there aren't too many in her family. Of course this is from looking up words in a dictionary, so don't take it as complete truth) So maybe that is a little more important to her right now. We sure won't know til the next round of soulbaring, but we are definitely dealing with a real human being here as opposed to consummate performer. Makes for great songwriting, but antsy fans. :) Hang in there Denis. You have quite a bit of company! ^_^ - -Leslie, waiting for that 'Clear horizon' single *forgive my spelling- I'm at work and rushing! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 21:46:09 -0600 From: tom@inetnebr.com, kelly&jordan Subject: Mr. Erling Mr. Erling My better half is touring European art museums for two weeks with her Mom and her brother Doug right now. That story got me nostalgic for this station in Ann Arbor (long since gone) that ws a lot like public radio but it was an actual commercial station- played rock, folk, jazz, whatever. It was sweet. Anyway, I remember back in '92 when we were all getting antsy for something new from her, a DJ there got a hold of 'Whose Side Are You On' and was playing an awful lot of it. (this is where I first heard 'Half A Minute'-what a shock it was to learn she did something BEFORE T&T) She obviously was a fan, plus this was when it was thought there would be a '92 release, so she ws hyping up Basia prior to the (nonexistant) release. Man, I miss that kind of exposure/dedication. - -Leslie ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Oct 1998 05:00:26 +0000 (GMT) From: combee@dacha.yak.net (Ben Combee) Subject: Basia tour ... ? I have to ask, Denis, is Basia's "Waters of March" as good as I am expecting it to be? IMHO the song is absolutely perfect for her and I can't wait to hear her rendition. (Here's an idea for a new Basia CD with all new songs and she doesn't have to write a thing. "Basia Sings Jobim" - better yet, "Basia AND Jobim") - -------------------------------------------------------- Thank you all for the feed back on the Sade/Video issue. Leslie - I agree, the dates you came up with were about what I had in mind, '84-'85. Even if the dates were different, I still can't see any Sade influence in her style or anything else. Don't you think MAYBE Astrud Gilberto would be a more likely candidate? ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Oct 1998 22:54:26 EST From: JPovlock@aol.com Subject: Re: Clear Horizon in the press But seriously folks, it's great for the music world that she keeps in the eyes of the general public but for us Basia Professionals, it's not much. Denis with one "N" By no means are you the only one who feels this way. Too many record companies put out a "greatest hits" package with a couple new songs in hopes of us fans being suckered into buying it. Let's face it, it's a consumer rip-off. It's like buying football season tickets where you have to pay full price for a couple of preseason games in order to get the rest of the games. But when you are a "fan", you usually end up paying it. We can be suckers at times. Also, I would like to add that I think "Waters of March" is a terrible song. I don't care that our hero is covering it, it is a terrible song. I didn't like it when Art Garfunkle did it, and I don't like it when Basia does it. Terrible, terrible, terrible.
