Political connotations aside, it addresses the fact that when an artist can address parallel channels of perception of their work so well, they have achieved rare mastery of their media. The Revolutionary Etude is one my favorites in this respect. But I had no idea that there was a political statement in it despite the name. There is this immense turmoil going on in the background (left hand) and a poignantly sad, but proud melody that cuts through the foreground (right hand). Recently deceased Japanese filmmaker, Akira Kurosawa, achieved on film, the same effect as Chopin did on the keyboard (notably "Throne of Blood" and "Kagemusha"). One strong Kurosawa trend is to depict battle scenes (for which he is famous) where the the pandemonium is intially both visual and aural but eventually the SOUND of battle is subtley and completely replaced by an intensely soulful soundtrack, while the visual carnage continues. The effect is intense. > >And tell Basia to get her sweet Polish self over here sooner than late >1999! > Agreed. Then again, I'm sure that it will be WELL worth the wait. Virgin Records +AD4APg-were nbevertheless keen to +ACI-do business.+ACI- +ACI-We got caught in the hype,+ACI- +AD4APg-admits then-head of A +ACY- R Jeremy Lascelles, +ACI-but why not- they were so +AD4APg-trmendously exciting live.+ACI- +AD4APg- +AD4APg-The so-so debut single Me +ACY- Mr Sanchez charted at +ACM-40 and the +AD4APg-Klactoveesedstein follow-up reached an even more disappointing +ACM-50. by +AD4APg-the time their debut album- Chewing the Fat- cropped up, Blue Rondo A La +AD4APg-Turk were buried by indifference. +AD4APg- +AD4APgAi-The elitist approach backfired,+ACI- explains Lascelles. +ACI-The band never +AD4APg-made a demo- you had to see them live and make up your own mind. Too +AD4APg-much hype, too early in a career, can be dangerous. If you don't hit the +AD4APg-jackpot on your first couple of releases, you never get a second +AD4APg-chance.+ACI- +AD4APg- +AD4APgAi-In Blue Rondo's case, there never was really a following, just a small +AD4APg-elite, so they were without the trigger points to make a record +AD4APg-successful, like a strong debut, touring, or radio support.+ACI- Today, a +AD4APg-still-annoyed Sullivan point out that Me +ACY- Mr Sanchez would have secured +AD4APg-itself a Top Of The Pops slot if it haden't been for Ken Dodd, but he +AD4APg-reserves his hatred for the press. +AD4APg- +AD4APgAi-When we didn't get a hit, we became their whipping boys,+ACI- he +AD4APg-remonstrates, +ACI-Those middle-class wanker journalists hated anyone who +AD4APg-dressed up. And to play funk, they reckoned, you had to be American- yet +AD4APg-half our band was from South America+ACEAIg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg-By the second album, Bees Knees and Chicken Legs, Sullivan assumed +AD4APg-Virgin had given up. +ACI-He's not a million miles from the truth,+ACI- says +AD4APg-Lascelles. +ACI-The buzz was gone, so there was a real sense of deflation +AD4APg-all around.+ACI- +AD4APg- +AD4APg---- end--- +AD4APg- +AD4APg-Has anyone actually heard either of their records? +AD4APg- +AD4APg-Also included in the article was a pic of the group with Danny looking +AD4APg-quite dapper although very young. I tried to attach it but we have At +AD4APg-Ease here so it was erased too soon. LMK if you want to see it and I'll +AD4APg-post it somewhere. +AD4APg- +AD4APg-Hope this entertains. +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg-Leslie Brown +AD4APg-marzenia+AEA-hotmail.com +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APgBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXwBfAF8AXw- +AD4APg-Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4APg- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Sep 1998 17:12:04 -0700 From: Joel Cairo Subject: Re: Blue Rondo A La Turk Leslie Brown wrote: > Has anyone actually heard either of their records? > Actually, the club re-mix of "Me & Mr. Sanchez" appears on the Basia bootleg titled "Traditional Polish Sambas", along with several other re-mixes and hard-to-find tracks by Ms. B, including "Angels Blush" and "Waters of March"... - -Kevin soundmn1@gte.net ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Sep 1998 20:41:21 +0000 From: Phil Hall Subject: Re: 1997 Polish Interview At 03:24 PM 9/10/98 PDT, Leslie Brown wrote: >All I can say is that with the only recognizable word being "Kevin," the >curiousity is peaked. > I saw reference to 'jakie' a couple of times, from both the interviewer and interviewee.. who's that? I wish I could offer more in the way of interpretation, but I only know a few simple words of her language ;) I was raised in a Polish speaking household, although English was the primary language, but that was a lifetime ago.
