I think we've all been operating on faith these last few years waiting for something we all KNOW will be terrific from our favorite singer/songwriter... I love this idea to put together a nice little book for Basia. Ashoke, you have taken on a great responsibility and it sounds like it is going to become a real labor of love for all of us but especially for you! Anything I can do to help, please let me know... I think I'm going to opt for a nice color image (one of my photos) done up in Photoshop, perhaps with a few words attached. Denis, yes, Peter is a terrific guy. I count myself really fortunate to have "fallen into" this work for him... It's been fun, and he's a good friend. Glad you were able to talk with him! Ben, I still have that extra little Basia clip or two you may be interested in putting on the SECOND CD... Looking forward to the first! :) Yes, Phil... Be civil (ack!)... In fact I now have 24 participants in the Basia WorldBook, so we're set to sail!!!! A note about electronic work. If you submit something really complicated in Photoshop (with layers, etc.) please send me explicit instructions how you want the layers handled. I can do a moderate amount of compositing work. Digital documents are the easiest to deal with but a "prepared" work is a bit more personal. I do have some fondness for the idea of pasting the stamped postage from each snail-mailed contribution. Imaging how wonderful it would be to have postage from say Japan, Europe and South America (I wish I WERE doing this from India) along with the authors name! If I could put together a couple of pages, it would give me an idea as to what kind of a time frame I am dealing with. Again folks, send me something to start with, we can always revise or you can send me updates. I will e-mail you jpegs of the of proofs, unless you are positive about how YOU want it layed out. Only then will things be pasted. Just thought of something else. If you want to submit high-res injet prints, please keep in mind that the cyan and magenta components of most inks used in inkjet printers will "bleach" over the years of exposure to light (which contains UV). You can UV coat them with a spray (art-supply stores would have them) as long as you print on glossy media. Another solution would be for me to have ALL the pages laminated after they are layed out. But without having a clue as to what the contributions might be, I cannot make this decision! Regards, Ashoke. ________________________________________________________________ Ashoke S. I myself managed a record store for a few years and had many opportunities to sample different styles of music. Basia has always been one I can come back to time and time again and enjoy almost as much as the first listen. I had the great fortune to catch her show back in the early 90's in Chicago at Poplar Creek (fantastic!). I, as well as the rest of you, am anxiously awaiting a new album. As for the latest topics: I would love to join in to produce something for the 'gift' package for Basia. Ashoke, you are definitely going above and beyond and I, for one, appreciate efforts such as yours. Many digest lists can be chock full o' boring, rant-n-rave, whining ...well you know the rest. This list has been full of many interesting people and fresh opinions. I know, enough smoke already. Also, many have been talking about compiling a song with many of our efforts dubbed together. I am also a subscriber to Chalkhills - The XTC digest list and have found many creative and interesting people also. What they have done for the past 3 years is compile a tape of XTC songs covered by list members. Would there be enough musically adventurous within this list to do the same? I would be willing to help with collecting songs and possibly some mastering. I am not a very long winded person and will probably have to rest for a few days after writing this. Just wanted to add a few thoughts today. A hello to all, David ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Sep 1998 21:47:02 EDT From: RonCB1@aol.com Subject: Re: Lurker No More Hi there.
