Mike << Subject: Lefty > >Lipmeister, are you left handed, by chance? >jb > Yup, I'm a lefty, proud of it, but hold the torrential flood of venom, assumed to be forthcoming, depicting how I'm unfit to roam the earth. Actually, I'm probably not lefty by birth. I suspect I was born right-handed, but I am visually impaired and my left eye is significantly stronger than my right, thus I probably gravitated to my left from necessity. I hold my hand in the "ordinary" position, I don't curve it over top. I do ASL (sign language), dial the phone, operate a calculator, and most other "fine" adjustments with my right hand, but I write with my left hand. Go figure. Someone once said..."The left half of your brain controls your right-sided functions, and the right half of your brain controls the left-sided functions. Thus, leftys are the only ones in the right minds." I suspect you'll have a comment on that? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Larry Lipman - --------------------------------------------------------------- Division Coordinator; Recording Studio Manager - --------------------------------------------------------------- The University of Memphis Commercial Music Program Campus Box 526546 - 232 CFA Building Memphis, TN 38152-6546 (901) 678-2559 [w/voice mail] FAX: (901) 678-5118 E-Mail: Llipman@memphis.edu ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Aug 1998 09:57:03 EDT From: Richard216@aol.com Subject: Re: basia-digest V3 #160 Kari, Do you play the guitar??? Then, perhaps, rather than discussing what covers Basia should do, > we can discuss the Basia covers we are doing! > What a super-spectacular idea! You most certainly may ma'am! I have one recommendation that goes great with mixed vocals: "Baby you're mine" - simple lines and great harmony. Other candidates that won't require a trip to the New Orleans Jazz festival: "She deserves it" "The Sweetest Illusion" (I kid you not - makes for a great acapella arrangement) "Ordinary People" "Masquerade" (if sounds could kill, I would die a sweet death after those opening lines) :-) Ashoke. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Aug 1998 10:35:27 -0500 (CDT) From: Robert Burns Subject: Basia guitar parts > > Do you play the guitar??? If you're serious about playing Basia, or most other jaz guitar - make sure you can do barre chords really, really well. Peter White (Basia's guitar man) and most other jazz guitarists use a lot of 7ths, 9ths, and so on. Playing these chords can be a real workout, even for an experienced guitar player. You'll rarely play a standard C, D, G, E... I'll post the basic chording for "Cruising for Bruising" later tonite - it's a simple song, but the chords - ugh! :) - -Robert Loaded down with your talents; Can you still keep your balance? - Emerson, Lake & Palmer ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Aug 1998 13:15:31 EDT From: The1wall@aol.com Subject: Re: basia-digest V3 #160 lol...Well Richard.
