Ashoke mused: >Perhaps, I am missing this because I am listening to an edited recording, so that I have to ask this question of those of you who have seen her live : > >"How was her interaction with the audience?" Well, not as sanitized as the BOB album would have you believe - Basia talked a bit, told some small stories, bragged on her band, that kind of thing - NOT as chatty as SOME performers I've seen. Some performers talk so much you miss the music unless the story is immensely interesting or funny or something. Al Stewart (for whom Peter White was sideman for nearly 20 years) is one who can tell a WHOPPER of a story and even if it turns out to be pointless you are entertained (and usually amused) nonetheless. Mike shouts: >Subject: NO BASIA JUST DIANENO BASIA JUST DIANENO BASIA JUST DIANENO BASIA JUST DIANENO B My gosh! :) >But I do shift very smoothly dose that disqualify me? HA HA! Mike, if you know how to use it, you're not a boobalus in my book. :) Ashoke mnehmneh'ed: >What can I say? Some people express their appreciation through poems, I do it through demonic mnemonics! ROTFL!!! Good one! :D Ben van Maaren declares: >BTW, we're also blaming El Nino for the weather... El Nino is probably being blamed for a lot of the icky weather we've ALL been having lately - why is it very few realize that the reason we're getting such bad weather is because we're deforesting the planet at an alarming rate? PLANT A TREE!!! Ben sez: >absolutely nothing new for a fan with even one of her albums, unless >there is some extra detail paid to the booklet and packaging, an >unlikely occurance. Hmmm... I dunno, Sony's been releasing a lot of these "collection" sets lately - usually with nice booklets & such - AND some stuff no one's heard of... Too bad it's obvious we're not getting alternate cuts, mixes, etc... A good photo book would be nice, tho... Huh... They didn't ask me for any photos - if they've used my shot of PW (from the SI tourbook) I'll SUE!!! ;) TTFN! --Di. Having seen Basia 3 times (yahoo!), I've seen an increase in her interaction with the audience. In her earlier concerts, she seemed very shy and didn't look at the audience or talk to us much... singing with her eyes closed, etc. But, her TSI show was different... much bigger, more confidence from Ms. T and a little more talking and eyes open! I enjoy a lot of interaction as well, and while Basia isn't the Queen of Audience Interaction.... she does a fine job of it.... IMHO Becky Ashoke S. But that's just me. Many people in the past have brought it to my attention that I am definitely in the minority when it comes to this. I see, now that we've all completed our run of off-topic postings, traffic has dropped back down to normal (one post per day). Jeff Hamilton - the capitalist http://www.mindspring.com/~jeffhamilton/ "The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable pi can be given that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant. This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change." - FORTRAN manual for Xerox computers ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Jul 1998 01:01:33 -0400 From: Joe Baker Subject: 78.625% OFF-TOPIC, remainder ON TOPIC Sorry I haven't written lately, you must be ridden with anxiety, fearing my disappearance or worse. Most recently my time has been consumed with a quest to identify the model number of a Presto brand pressure canner produced sometime in the early 1960s. This pressure canner appears to be in excellent condition, and operable with one exception. The pressure regulator is missing. A visit to the Presto website and inquiry with same giving information available from the weathered label has proved fruitless in identifying the exact model. When, and if I might add, a valid serial or model number can be extrapolated from the relic, the kind folks in Customer Service will gladly cross-reference the data to their service parts listing and promptly inform me if a pressure regulator is available from their warehouse o' parts. On another note, the fungus commonly known as "brown patch" has unleashed it's fury on me. Please don't panic or worry incessantly as I know you are inclined regarding my trials and tribulations, my plan for eradication is being executed concurrently with the composition of this letter. With respect to Basia, can anyone give any info regarding the approximate date of her last public performance, press conference, press release, or when last seen in public? Having gathered that our Dear One is hibernating and looking for inspiration, I wonder now the current length of this hiatus. Not knowing the intimate details of her life as some of you do, the thought keeps crossing my mind that the marriage of her musical partner may have thrown a curve to her professional endeavors. jb Post Script: The above was designed in an effort to bury the hatchet, if you will, clean the slate, so to speak, make amends, shall we say, with Mr. Lipman, Ms. Witter and others (hereinafter referred to as "they" or "them", whichever sounds correct to my warped human CPU). The marked aversion and rancor "they" exhibited in response to my comments has haunted my soul for nigh a fortnight. My only experience with playing records in a manner inconsistent with normal practice (note the deletion of the previously used word "incorrectly" per my previous posts to avoid being perceived as judgmental by "them") was searching for the "Paul is Dead" chant during the last days of the Beatles. Fords and Chevys bore me, as do Apple vs. IBM debates. Since we (notice the attempt to join "them" with me as components of a common interest in an effort to promote bonding) obviously enjoy sharing our interests other than Basia to one another, my contribution is long overdue. ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V3 #136 ***************************
