Very fast 300+ Mhz computers & I have a choice to upgrade to Windows NT 5 when it becomes available. As for the Mac issue, being from California & supporting multiple OS's/computers for 13 years I think that Apple made a very serious mistake in not making their OS available for other systems. Bill Gates is not the devil that people make him out to be. He is just a businessman out to make a buck. Apple's problem was they tried to be a dictator in a free market economy keeping their OS & their hardware closed to other manufacturers. Capitalism thrives on competition & Jobs thought he could limit the amount of competition. I believe that Mac's on the whole are better systems & easier to use than DOS-based PC's but they are way over priced & slower to have developers write for them. They are also much more expensive/difficult to fix when some component does break. By the way my laptop of choice is a Powerbook! Well, I converted the final two Matt Bianco videos from AVI to MPEG earlier this week. There is a slight audio problem with "More Than I Can Bear" (about twenty seconds where you hear popping sounds mixed with the audio), but I can't find a way to fix the original AVI so we're probably stuck with it (I had to return the PAL VCR). I'm just about ready to lay out the contents of the "Early Years" CD... I need to look at file sizes to see what can fit in 660 MB. I still have some Sweetest Illusion era clips to digitize, but I can go ahead and start with the Early CD duplication, probably over the 4th weekend. As for "Conversation", I'd love to add it. I can get the PAL VCR back if I have enough notice, but I don't plan on holding the burn of the first CD for it -- it would be tacked on to the "Later" CD. - -- Benjamin L. "Basia", the mailing list remains. This new list is just a lower volume read-only (for the most part) place for people who are interested in her, but don't want full mailboxes. For what its worth, I'm staying on the main list and hope to contribute more. But now, when someone comes to BasiaWeb asking for info, I can point them to a resource that won't occupy too much of their time. I don't have a personal problem with a lot of the recent discussion, but I also know that not every topic I'm interested in is one I want to join a disorgaznied list on. For example, I can read "Telecom Digest" without having to wade through a 200 message flame war about ISDN vs. ASDL. There are many people out there who just want to know if something significant happend relating to Basia without reading fifty messages about related singers or favorite songs. - -- Benjamin L. Point well taken - I originally joined this list because I wanted to be on top of any news related to Basia. Not to meet anyone. It just so happens that a great deal of you turned out have interesting personalities. But you (Ben) are right - people should certainly be able to be part of a Basia information network without having to go through the PC / Mac wars. Question: Do I understand correctly that people who do not mind the off-topic discussions do not need to subscribe to the news list, as it (the news list) will simply be a compilation of news extracted from this list? Or should we subscribe to both? How exactly will that work? Sorry if you explained it before, but I must not have grasped it too well. Wow - I've never met Reba McEntire but considering other stories I've heard about her, I find this quite likely. Perhaps she and Basia would never even get along - Basia being the quintessential sweetheart that she is (at least, I haven't heard anything negative from ANYONE that's met Basia). People say she's (Reba) been getting "too big for her britches" since her 1990 album "Rumor Has It" sold millions (BTW that's her best album IMO). At least she puts out albums regularly (like fifteen or twenty of them since 1980). But none of them are anywhere near as good as any of Basia's. I thought the idea of putting accurate subject lines was pretty sufficent (for example, if the subject line says "Bill Gates and the Ark of the Covenant" then it's obvious that that's what the subject matter is). As it seems this is NOT sufficent for everyone, how about an all caps OFF TOPIC or HALF OFF TOPIC in every subject line, which people can set their mail filters to catch. Make everyone happy. Then I can proceed to have my aforementioned heart attacks everytime a message comes in that doesn't say "OFF TOPIC", so you guys can think carefully before you write a subject line. Does Basia use a computer regularly (outside of the studio)? Is it a PC or a Mac? And what does she drive? Right now, I've got all the Matt Bianco, _Time and Tide_, and _London Warsaw New York_ era clips ready to put on CD, and I think I only lack a few talk show clips from _The Sweetest Illusion_ and _Basia on Broadway_ to have it all done. So, over the 4th of July weekend I'll be laying out the "Early Years" CD-R and maybe even getting the first beta copies ready. I'll be sending a few early discs to the clip contributors as a thank you, and also to beta test them before a general release. The second CD, "The Later Years", will be ready later in July. I know I have enough material for 2 CDs, but with the possible addition of a new interview from the UK, this may turn into a 3 CD collection. If the spill over is only minor, I might just let the extra clips go until we can get enough material for another whole CD. So, that's the status. If you sent me material, could you please send me a private mail with your current mailing address? I have some of them, but they may not be current. Thanks, - -- Benjamin L. I have no problem posting any significant announcements to both lists. However, if the list membership on basia@smoe.org wants to sub to the news list too, thats OK. I've configured the news list to put a special tag on the subject: [BASIA-NEWS]. That makes them stand out in ones mailbox. Let me know... I've already seen several subscribers join on to the news list, but with my current thinking, there's no real need to be on both, it just might be convienent. - -- Benjamin L. But you got to admit that anyone who wants to take a "jagged little pill" probally dose not have happy thoughts on their mind. I do believe that all I have heard from her has been like a country song, sad and depressing( to me at least).I will re-review the "pocket " one however. I thought that it was a song about masterbation, you know "one hand in my pocket". Just kidding just kidding. Everybody calm down.
