As far as I know Basia split from Matt Bianco to "develop herself", and when the CD was released later in the eighties, her track was dubbed over with the voice of Mark Reilly and his female backing singer. Hmmm. How rude of them. Well, anyway...She developed quite nicely. Joel Cairo sez "Actually, it was issued on CD (Whose side are you on)-- The copy I have is from WEA in Germany (catalog # 240 472-2). I understand that the version of "More Than I Can Bear" is different than the LP or tape versions though-- the CD version doesn't have *any* vocals by Basia, whereas the others do." Tom asks: What? let me get this right. WSAYO was released (german pressing) CD . with the re-recorded version of "MTICB". I am listening to the 2nd version right now "Atlantic 7-89359" and it sounds to me like Jenny Evans singing in the backups. She has a nice voice but the version is pretty whimpy. Jeff Hamilton sez "Anyone - what's the justification for having different versions of songs on different configurations of the "Whose Side Are You On?" album (some configs have Basia, and some do not)? Up until Matt Bianco and Basia started releasing Material I have never seen an artist with so many repackaging projects. I'm serious here you consider that Basia has released 3 full albums, 30-40 songs or so, there are dozens of remixes, repackaged remixes, import remixes, remixed repackaged white label remixes and on and on and on. That's what makes it fun to collect! As far as Matt B. and what really happened back then. who knows? I think Basia and Danny did'nt like the label they were on and said f ck this, and split. At that point they had probably written most all the new songs for Time and tide and were looking for a new record deal. They certainly had the talent. Although I don't happen to have a copy of the US album or cassette at the moment, I believe the version contained on those IS the one with Basia-- to my knowledge, there are only two different versions. The one that I have on my "Whose Side..." CD has no female vocals at all-- just Mark Reilly on lead *and* backing vocals. And believe me, Basia is missed. Incidentally-- I have a question for Diane (or someone else who might be able to ferret out the answer)-- I'm sure we all know that one of Danny's early gigs was with "Blue Rondo A la Turk"... well, I know this borders on the unbelievable, but while I was out poking around at a (now defunct) record store here in the States, I found a 12" single by the group!!! (Diable-Noir Recordings, VS-463 12-A/B) My question is: does anyone know if Danny actually *recorded* with them, and if so, is he on the tracks titled "Me and Mr. Sanchez" (songwriters are M.Reilly - K. Poncioni - C. Sullivan) or "Sarava" (songwriters are K. Poncioni - G. D'Arbilly)? If it helps, the tracks are produced by Pete Wingfield. So much for the question of the day... Kevin (with one "k") soundmn0@gte.net BTW-- I'm *still* looking for an ESK-1276 promo, if anyone's got a spare to unload... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jun 1998 00:39:52 EDT From: Whipple930@aol.com Subject: Basia plus somebody...and someone else...and someone else.....................
