Sorry you were disappointed! I don't like Kenny G much but Peter is WAY beyond that, IMH(and yes, biased)O... It's "smooth jazz" or as Peter tends to think, "instrumental pop" - NOT FUNKY JAZZ. You want funky, don't get any new contemporary ("smooth") jazz music - it's not the same as the old stuff. And believe it or not, people DO dance at Peter's shows - no, not the waltz, but some pretty good shakin' going on! (HA!) Dirk, if you still dislike it after listening to it some more, I'll buy it back from you - I know a lot of people who love it and I'm sure I can foist it upon some unwary nonbeliever who will be pliable enough to be converted... :) TTFN! --Di. Sorry about the subject line--just wanted to put something that would catch your eyes! Mr. Pilat--okay, so maybe the album does sound like muzak. So what's wrong with muzak? It seems that you use that word in a negative sense, like it isn't real "music." Now here I am playing the devil's advocate. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of muzak. I don't go out and by loads of it. But if Peter White's "Caravan of Dreams" was technically classified as muzak, it's some of the best gosh-darned muzak on this Earth. I decided to buy my first Peter White CD about a year after I saw him perform ONE SONG during Basia's concert, while the mistress herself was taking a break. The impact of that one song was so strong that it stayed in my mind for that one year. And I consider the albums of his that I have some of my favorite--there's not a stinker in the bunch. Needless to say, Peter White's music is high class--not your regular run-of-the-mill "muzak," if it is that. And one more think about muzak--I guess if you really wanted to, you could take the lyrics away from Basia's songs, and I guess they could count for elevator muzak, too. What do you think? joe P.S. Bruce Anderson--hey, be careful now! You're slipping in little Japanese words, and I don't think everyone's picking them out! CHIGAU! As a fan and guitarist who's gone to great lengths to learn Peter's style (best as I can), it's hardly "muzak". Peter is a fantastic, creative musician. Look at the huge body of work he's been involved in with so many contemporary jazz greats. NewtonBuss: Please don't go! This list is fun. Believe me, I tried to get off but I couldn't stay away for more than 24 hours. It's just that with Basia on a 4-year+ sabbatical, there is a tendency to start discussions on all the other exciting things that are going on in our lives. Like buffalo wings. We don't have to talk about buffalo wings. How about portobello mushrooms? They really DO taste like steak. And is it "portobello?" Or "portabella?" I don't think anyone really knows how to spell it. Or we can speculate on Basia's favorite foods -- pierogis? fish'n'chips? haggis? Can she AFFORD fish'n'chips, considering she's probably standing in a bread line somewhere because she hasn't put out a record in four years? Does she even LIKE bread? And speaking of bread, is "NewtonBuss" your real name? See NewtonBuss, there is SO much we can talk about! Don't give up. Before you know it you'll warm up to this list and have lots of new friends and learn things you never even cared about before. Hang in there! I definitely can't consider anything that talented anywhere near muzak. Also, I wanted to make the point that muzak really does get a bad rep. Hell, I'm sure I'm party to it. I always think that muzak has stumped down to new lows after they do Guns and Roses cover versions. But I'm sure it does have a benefit (medical or not)--it should help us relax (either that or irritate us, one or the other) as we are waiting for takeoff, riding a crowded elevator, having a stressful day of power shopping, etc. Talking about muzak makes me feel sorry for it because everyone seems to make fun of it. Probably because I started listening to music before I could read - back then, it was 8-tracks (haha), reels, vinyl, and (very low quality) cassettes. Me - I hate when artists put out greatest hits albums after only three albums (The Judds and Debbie Gibson both did it and it wasn't cool then either). Of course, if it had just ONE extra track, or better yet - all of the non-LP tracks were on it, it would be worth the while. Of course, I'd buy anything with Basia on it now, even if they simply reissued T&T *again*.
