So if we keep this up, I >might not live to see the next album. Breathe, Jeff... Breathe.... :D Please, *don't* expire on us... We'd miss you terribly! I'll try to see if Peter White will be good enough to pass along a message to Basia from us... He hears this so many times from so many people, "What's Basia doing?" that it's a question on his FAQ page on his website - and the answer is, "She's working on another album." Well, we knew that... It's been the answer for quite a few years now... It would certainly be nice to hear *something*... I was so pleased to see Peter record with Basia on his own "Caravan Of Dreams" album. "Just Another Day" was a nice little 'teaser' - and now I'm getting anxious again... And now for something completely different, I just got back from Maui - I was there for five nights - seeing the Maui Music Fest (Peter played Sunday the 24th) and seeing the island - my first time in Hawaii. ANYHOW - Should any of you be curious to hear what kind of music is playing on the BEST radio station on Maui, check out this website: http://www.mauigateway.com/~kpoa/index.html You can listen to the radio station if you have at least a 28.8 modem and a RealAudio player of at least version 3.0. This is HAWAIIAN music - no Basia (sorry!), but it's really interesting stuff. I rather like it. It's a mix of all kinds of music from Hawaiian Swing songs from the '40's to Hawaiian rap and reggae. I will have photos from Maui up on Peter White's website when I get them back from the photo lab (and I find half-a-minute to put them up!). Really busy these days with making more websites... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Diane F. That includes a new one released in the US today. So I'm listening while the rest of you are wallowing in sorrow ;-p. Or we could fool ourselves again and make up a date. I'd say Basia will release her new album "Rachel's Divorce" on June 6, 2000. hahahahahha un abrazo, juan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 10:03:54 EDT From: ECONECIA@aol.com Subject: Re: NEW ALBUM just for Jeff Hello, all. I'm fairly new to this site. I've been "checking in" for about two months now and I've been fairly amused at some of the stuff I've seen here, but mostly, I've been stricken to have finally found kindred spirit.....PHEW! Where do I start? First of all, let me say that my name is Eric and I'm a Basiaholic. Not the obscure collector like some of you out there unfortunately, but one who has been profoundly affected by her music for many years. My (estanged) wife and I began listening in 1986 and to move right along, our ten-year-old's first sung words were "New day...New day...New day".We were fortunate enough to have seen the band perform twice in Boston- onthe LWNY and TSI tours. For LWNY, I had to actually lie my way out of my own sister's birthday party!!! (Great show!)After TSI, at an outdoor venue, we almost snuck backstage to greet our idol, but were discovered at the last second. I don't have any more time right now. I could go on and on about the place that Basia has been playing in my life, but I will have to continue another time. Unfortunately, my marriage did not survive. For a while after our split, I couldn't even listen to Basia-too painful, too many memories. I am now able to partake again, feeling the highs and lows and just generally basking in the glow. Lookin forward to checking out the other site and downloading some of the goodies there. By the way, Welcome back, Meg! I, too, would have missed you. Also, I would be shocked if many of you don't have anyting by Astrud Gilberto, one of Basia's many influences. Listening to her "Girl from Ipenima", we are reminded of Basia's lilting style and wispiness at times, but I believe Basia rose many levels beyond Astrud. After all, Astrud was a very accidental star. Peace to all! Eric ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 10:16:34 -0500 From: Meg Evans Subject: Good morning! Glad everyone on The List woke up after the long snooze! Coupla things on this fine June day: 1) If Mike Hall's translation of Frederic's e-mail is correct, then we must help Frederic improve his English. ;) 2) To all you newcomers: Whipple's right about me, so watch out! I'm the BasiaList Witch and I LOVE A GOOD FIGHT! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! >:O 3) Abrazo Juan, you crack me UP! Personally, I'm in Loreena McKennitt heaven. She's all over the place (if you know where to look, that is). But if I want any new Basia, I'll just snuggle up to my Mac, fire up MacAmp and listen to "Waters of March" over and over and over and over and over .... Please keep us posted on the "Rachel" tour as the new millenium approaches. (Oops! Rumors, rumors.) Gracias, amigo estimado. 4) Eric: Welcome, and glad you are able to once again listen to Basia. I relate -- "Perfect Mother" used to put me right over the edge. And yes, EVERYONE should have at least one Astrud CD in their collection, if not more. Muito bem! Everything Basia wrote about her is true. She's way more than just "Girl from Ipanema." Well, if I had to listen to *one* Gloria Estefan album, I'd be wallowing much worse than I currently am waiting for Basia. :P "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, I'm just gonna keep on counting..." - -Songwriter extraordinaire Gloria Estefan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 21:52:41 EDT From: Ambooth@aol.com Subject: Re: Major Basia News! I now have renewed faith that i bought the correct computer. Meg, you are no witch, you are just passionate about your belifs and share those passions with all those around. We just you would get off the fence on most issues(lol). Meg i donot have "MacaAmp." What is it and is it any good? As far as i knew the only MacAmp I have seen is the McIntosh system i use at home(except the speakers their from Duntuch). But i think that Basia needs to get off her rich hinney (that I and others paid for) and put down some tracks; even if its a remake of the Barney song. Lastley Meg I have been trying to get Mat B. to get in touch with me on the cd-r's he needs to no avail. Can you help? If so I'll give you a couple of them to get the videos he is working on.
