I dunno, I think it was really cool to see who ELSE the list has been listening to, lately. And I always love to hear about who is from where - it's this little WORLD community we have here - and we share other things than just an appreciation for a terrific singer/songwriter named Basia Trzetrzelewska. Not that we should stray too far "off-topic", mind you (and I try to keep on it when I DO post), I just sometimes like to hear that someone who hasn't posted in a while is still around... (speaking of that, Rrique, are you still out there?) > I wish Basia >would keep producing, just as everyone else does. Peter White told me in these exact (and unprompted) words: "Basia is still working - slowly - on a new album." So. That's all the news that's fit to holler, at this point, other than that Danny got married and the happy couple are expecting their first baby to be born sometime this year. Not necessarily a MUSICAL event, unless of course Danny is moved to write some new music for the next album because of it... Ya never know... :) > My frustration with >regard to an absence of Basia is with WNUA here in Chicago, which no longer >plays ANY Basia - Uh huh... I know, this kind of thing sux. It also makes an artist wonder if she's just spinning her wheels, or if her musical public is still out here wanting MORE... That was one reason I urged people to write to Basia. I truly feel this is important - in more ways than one - and we need to let her know we're still out here and that we really appreciate her musical efforts. > Perhaps Basia >list members can share their appreciation of other artists -- perhaps even >prompt others to try new music? Ah, and as I've mentioned above, we've done that before, to (IMHO) great success. I'm sure we can spin that topic again! >I also would like to thank Abrazo Juan for his >acknowledgement of Frank Sinatra's passing. Dennis sez: > Deep down >we really are a friendly bunch. Ha ha, yes. And we're a classy bunch too - we appreciate good music. :) And so: My musical tastes vary greatly. Here's a short but diverse list, by no means in any particular order (and I know I'm forgetting some people) -- Basia (no kidding!), Peter White (who???) (HA!), David Sanborn, Neil Diamond, Johnny Clegg & Savuka, The Chieftains, Enya, Aerosmith, James Brown, Soft Cell, Marc Almond, Spyro Gyra, Craig Chaquico, Rick Braun, Boney James, Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, The Doors, Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Angelique Kidjo, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Joe Cocker, Third Eye Blind, Cracker, Sublime, 60's Motown, BLUES, 60's R&B, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Stray Cats, BB King, Grover Washington Jr, Annie Lennox, The Eurythmics . . . I'd better stop now... :) TTFN! - --Di. "...If you follow your dreams... But then, I've never heard that song before from Matt Bianco (I've got the cd ordered via roach....still waiting etc.) so I liked the jazzy-scatting of it -- and on many levels the video matched up nicely with the song. First thoughts: nice shots of Danny (sans hat!) playing the keyboards, it seemed to me that Basia was a wee bit uncomfortable in that outfit -- if nothing else, it wasn't flattering to her at all, especially her hair in a bun. But all in all, considering it was 1985 and all -- not too shabby at all. I liked the black and white motif -- so the domino motif was okay to me. > Next on the list: "Sneaking Out the Back Door", a video about jewel > thieves and "Whose Side Are You On?", with Basia playing paranoid > restaurant patron. I'm going to try hard to get the rest of the Matt > Bianco stuff up this weekend. Cool!!! Hope you succeed. The only Matt Bianco I have (sans Basia) is "another time, another place" -- which I am trying to augment naturally in my audio collection. -- Beverly Martin - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -=> Visit The all New *LEGENDS* APA site!!! <=- http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Dimension/9049/Legends.html FEATURING THE ONE AND ONLY SUGAR AND SPIKE WEBSITE ON THE WHOLE BLASTED INTERNET THINGIE!!! http://home.earthlink.net/~beej_martin/SandSMain.html AND MY OLD "STAND-BYS" AT: http://home.earthlink.net/~beej_martin/index.html http://home.earthlink.net/~beej_martin/graphics.html http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Dimension/9049/twice1.html (12/29/97) - -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*--*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* "Now the internet has all these people who are sitting around typing one-handed, and they're illiterates! I'm glad to see you're still around. Just like in your "real life" circle of friends and family... some of us are nice & pleasant, some are bold & brassy, we've got some shy people, some out-spoken ones... you name it, I'm sure we've got it. Everyone's welcome here. And yes, every once in awhile there's going to be a comment, or a topic that hits a sore spot with you.. either ignore it or speak your mind... but don't leave us, ok? We're so few as it is, we need the help when the list starts to dry up... and see what a nice job you did of getting the list hopping for the past few days? I'm not sure when it was recorded, but it was found on a record by Roach. He made a tape copy for me. I could make an mp3 file and e-mail it if you'd like. Also, in the US "Whose Side Are You On" was released on CD with another singer on the female part. So, you may wish to add the original version for folks to listen to. un abrazo, juan ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V3 #93 **************************
