Den, The primary intent in getting Meg back is that she knows when Basia's impending (sic) album finally comes out and buys one - thus making the grand sales total equal to the number of folks reading this List, hopefully. Every little bit will help Basia stave off poverty (tho who knows, mabey she has a day job!) I think most of her previous buyers have died off by now.....I almost felt the Big One coming on when I foolishly bought the last Swing Out Sister release after having been advised to do so in order to dull the pain of NBMD (new Basia music deprivation). It was a near tragic mistake. I know what you say about the tone of this list is true - it can strike some whose sensitivities are less robust that we are a cruel cold bunch. We need to encourage them to leave their toes in the water just a bit longer, and not cancel their tickets for this, the latest cruise of Titanic. Phil (last of the living mixed metaphors) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 May 1998 08:52:16 -0400 From: jp Subject: what happened Meg, I'm glad you've decided to stay. We need new blood ;-). Here's what's happened. Back in early 1996, through the skullduggery of Roach, we all convinced ourselves that Basia would have a new album in 1998. So, we complained about how far away 1998 was. Then we picked the 10 non-Basia albums we would like to have if stranded on a desert island. Then we complained that it was not yet 1998. And Jacki frightened us all by admitting that she works for the U.S. Postal Service. And we prayed for 1998. And Diane changed her ball joints as we argued about whether the new, rumored Basia song should be properly titled "Water of March," or "Waters of March." And we didn't believe 1998 would ever get here as CD Banzai couldn't seem to find any copies of the CD "Water/s of March" it listed on it's web page. And we each picked our top 10 Basia songs and compiled them into a list. And we gave up on 1998 - forcing accusations of Phil being on crack. And we discussed the rumor that Matt Bianco would release a new album. And 1998 got closer. And Roach was hurt in an accident, and we all worried about him and discussed the stuff of life that truly matters. Then we resumed fussing about 1998. Roach had the idea of compiling the video of Basia appearances all of us had - which led to Ben's Basia video project - and Dennis spotted a new Basia video at Sears - and, amazingly, got a copy. And 1998 didn't seem so far away. Dr. Dirk Pilat graduated from medical school and left the list for a while. And we realized 1998 was much closer. And we all sent in our recollections of the first time we heard a Basia song. And we realized 1998 was only a few weeks away as Peter White went on tour in the U.S. Now it's 1998 and there's still no album. So, what's there to talk about? That's why we need new people, such as you Meg, to get us going again. We're worn out. However, the Basia mpg.3 project has my interest. At last I have a copy of "Waters of March." Maybe I'll even get back to work on the Basia midi stuff I promised months ago - but I did say I work on Basia and Danny time. enough rambling - glad you've stayed Meg. un abrazo, juan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 May 1998 11:34:47 EDT From: SHelms1035 Subject: Re: what happened In a message dated 98-05-16 08:53:32 EDT, you write: << Now it's 1998 and there's still no album. Thanks for the update... I just joined your list last week and wondered if it was worth staying... but I think I will hang around and see just when this next collection of Basia music emerges.... Have you ever shared with each other just what Basia's music means to you? Without getting too emotional, I will tell you about my experience... In 1989, having just gone through a painful (is there any other kind) divorce.. there I was... with my two young daughters... on my own... gulp... A wonderful friend of mine turned me on to Basia... with Time and Tide..... There were so many tunes on that album that elevated my mood to where I thought I could take on the world.. the rythyms... the lyrics... wow... When I would feel really down, I would load up the girls, then they were 7 and 5.... and go driving through the old neighborhoods in town with the sunroof open and Basia blasting!!!! Hooboy... we always felt better when we got back home... hee, hee... I still remember those drives with Basia... so do my children... they are 14 and 16 now, and Basia fans to this day.... Abrazar means "to hug" in Spanish. Ergo, "un abrazo" means a hug. ^_^ Ja ne, Bruce ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 May 1998 21:53:47 GMT From: combee@techwood.org (Ben Combee) Subject: First Matt Bianco video online: "Get Out Your Lazy Bed" I'm in the middle of uploading the first of the five Matt Bianco videos that will be on the Video Collection CDs. This is the ultra-cheesy video for "Get Out Your Lazy Bed", featuring multiple video effects and an domino motif. I've encoded it as a 80Kbs RealVideo file, so most of you will need to download the 2M file before viewing. Next on the list: "Sneaking Out the Back Door", a video about jewel thieves and "Whose Side Are You On?", with Basia playing paranoid restaurant patron. I'm going to try hard to get the rest of the Matt Bianco stuff up this weekend. All stuff at BasiaWeb, http://basia.techwood.org/ - -- Benjamin L.
