I fell in love with a special woman in the late 80's; "Time and Tide" reminds me that our time will come again. Another is "Brave New Hope." Dano Diane F. Hi Meg. Yes it is appropriate to respond to a specific email account and is encouraged should the interest be there. We on the list enjoy new members as their views are usually very refreshing. SOme of us have forgotten what to talk about and have fallen into a deep sleep waiting for something wonderful to happen. We hope that something wonderful is a new Basia CD. Last year we were waiting also, that the rumor came that nothing would come until 1998. Well it's 1998 and we are still waiting. Lets spread the word and get more new participants. I recently joined the mailing list and I am blown away by the dedication to Basia since I always felt I was the only one who got it!! A harmony of music is created between Danny White & Basia! I have been told that I resemble Basia. I am part polish and I sing but I was a toehead(natural white blonde) when I was a little girl. I now have redish brown hair but you can tell I have polish, lithuanian, & russian in me. Don't you hate it when people go on and on about themselves! yuc yuc! Anyway, I believe that every song has a place relating to a moment in time of my life so I would say they all are special. I think the music conveys an idea of being as compassionate and caring as possible. And we all make mistakes! But if I had to pick one, "Best Friends" has a meaning for me concerning a friend and business partner that I no longer am friends with. A connection with someone that does not come around too often and I hope someday it will be healed! Basia holds things dear to her heart as some of us do and grow and learn with life's roller coaster ride! Remember, music is the universal language and helps us relate to each other! I am glad there are fans like you who appreciate the "Simple Pleasures" Best Wishes & Dreams to Come True to all! Tamara Tab4muzic@aol.com "I'm lost in a painted Desert. BE CAREFUL After my original message in french i join his traduction by "altavista translation". I don't know that it's a very good solution... but it's fun sometimes ! Frédéric from Paris :-) - ----------------------- Hello with all of France! This small message to announce to Diane that I finally found Cd of Peter White, " Caravan of Dreams " with the ray " smooth jazz " of Ghent record dealer. There was however one specimen of it; I will supervise in order to verifier who they will control some of others! With regard to the songs of Basia (of which I could discover" just another day "... but it is not completely Basia I find, not?), for me which am not anglophone, the title which gave me the most emotion is " from now on "... the "avantage " not to understand your language it is than I gave to this song a rather abstract but very romantic significance; for me this title is dregs with a campfire in the mountains, the summer, under a sky star... and yet I have almost toujouhours listening " From now one " in my car or my show!!! Since I find that " Time and Tide ", " Take him Rachel " " Yearning " and " Cruel way " form part of the most beautiful compositions of the tandem Basia/Danny White; Special mention for " Give me that ", quite simply because it is not reproduced on any Cd but I possede (idem for mystery" big rosie" of Matt Bianco Basia time). These two titles which I just have on a magnetic tape have something the magic one: how I seldom listen to them they give the impression to me to be still very new and allow me to keep with regard to Basia an enthusiasm still very new, malgre all the time which us separe of his last album! This is the first time that I have sent anything to the Basia list. It's exciting! I've tried sending messages before, but I guess I sent HTML messages or something, so I got them back. Hopefully it is working now. I currently live in Japan, and in response to Diane's previous e-mail, I have seen Basia's single "Angels Blush" before at Tower Records (the Shinjuku Station East Exit branch). I don't remember how many copies they had, and I haven't seen it at any other store before. I actually went to the Tower branch in question tonight, but I didn't look for it. Though I think it would be pretty safe to say that it would be at any Tower Records store (especially the largest Tower Records store in Japan, the largest CD store in all of Japan, in fact) close to Shibuya Station (on the Yamanote train line). I've also seen a special version of "Time and Tide," with two extra tracks, at the Tower I mentioned before--I don't know how much that is in demand, though (I've only seen that version on a special gold-plated version or something in the States). Generally it is difficult to find CD's of Western artists at the Japanese record stores (as opposed to the foreign ones like Tower, Virgin, HMV [which might be Japanese owned, I'm not sure]) because they are listed under Japanese word order. I've had many a headache trying to find CD's by Western artists in those stores. At Tower and such the Western CD's are under alphabet order--much easier! And I think it would be pretty safe to find and Basia at the foreign record stores. If I can be of any other help, drop me a line. Didn't they release "Angels Blush" in the States at all? I remember hearing it on the LA radio when I visited LA during Christmas in 1995. I think the Basia songs that excite me the most is her "Sweetest Illusion" CD. I think it reminds me of a big change of my life--after I came back to the States after studying at a university in Japan. I think the Brazilian influence on that album is just wonderful. After buying this album, I knew that I had to see her in concert--I saw her in Cincinnati, and it was the best concert of my life. The crowd loved her, and it made her performance so enthralling. I hope I have a chance to see her again! I wanted to mention another artist that I think is just fabulous. They are called Hiroshima, a mostly Japanese-American jazz band with a special twist--they use traditional Japanese musical instruments, such as the koto and shakuhachi, to make wonderful contemporary jazz and R&B. It might sound a bit strange, but it really works well. I can't wait till a new CD comes out. I really suggest people give them a listen. That's if for now! See ya guys later. joe ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Joe Palcher ICQ #4618534 Words of wisdom from Joe: "Don't cook with Styrofoam in the oven. It'll melt. She has sung one Stevie Wonder songs, "Until You Come Back To Me," which I think she does a wonderful job of putting her own stamp on that song. But I couldn't imagine her singing Burt Bacharach songs or David Foster, so on, because I think that she maintains a high standard of her material by doing most of her work herself, spending careful time to make it perfect. Also, I think her type of music clashes with the more "pop" nature of songwriters like Burt and David (not, of course, saying that there music isn't good, because they write wonderful music, too--it's just different). Of course, it seems that we all have to wait ages for new material, but in the end isn't it work it wait for some of the most heavenly songs on earth? Take care guys. joe ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Joe Palcher ICQ #4618534 Words of wisdom from Joe: "Don't cook with Styrofoam in the oven. It'll melt. She is a bit tight with the output. Think of Basia working _Walk On By_. Phil ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V3 #76 **************************
