I just signed up for the Basia mailing list yesterday, and already I got two e-mails Thursday, and three today! I have been a fan of Basia since the Chicago station WNUA started out, and they played lots of Basia, Swing Out Sister, Enya, and also a wide variety of "new age" music. They went bananas when "Sweetest Illusion" came out. It was wonderful! Sadly, I think their demographic has changed dramatically and I swear they haven't played her for at least a year, possibly more (except the Peter White song "Just Another Day," which they don't play anymore, either). So I hear her only on my stereo at home, and the CD-ROM player on my Mac at work. Anyway, sorry I've babbled on so. I am going to consider Diane's question about which song of hers speaks to me, but I'm not sure if I should respond to HER e-mail address or the basia@smoe.org address. Please let me know. Also, is it really true that Basia has a child (Nicholas Gorecki)? If so, she is an incredibly young and beautiful mother! I thank you in advance for your reply, and I look forward to "conversing" with other people who share my passion for Basia's music (as well as a curiousity about the wonderful woman herself). I guess it speaks to me because it seems I have to do things at least 3 times before I get it right! (smoil, er simil, er 3rd time "smile") I also absolutely love "From Now On" especially the original guitar only version. I learned to play that tune on the guitar and am still mystified by it. Its a hauntingly beautiful song. Oh well, thats it. I truely do enjoy, to this day still and from the first time I heard Basia, listening to her sing. I don't remember it. Denis ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Apr 1998 18:50:57 EDT From: Samurai27 Subject: Re: Hello, I'm a new one Well Meg welcome. I have been on this list for two years now. I don't know if that makes me a regular. As far as responding to Di, either this list or her own email. Yes Nick is her son and she is a young mother at 38, I believe. We all on this list are real crazy about her and can't wait for the next cd to come out. If you go to the Peter White web site, and send a message to Peter he will respond. He is quite busy now recording his next cd though. I have sent Basia four letters and still have not heard from her but I still hope. Well must go for now. Enjoy. Hi, it's Meg, the "new one" again. I have a quick question: is it appropriate to respond to a specific person's e-mail address after I received something from the Basia mailing list? Just want to make sure I don't intrude on anyone's e-mail account. Thanks! Already I have received mail from people who (obviously!) share my amazement at Ms. Basia's talent and the warmth she conveys. Here is a quote from my good friend, who I took to Basia's "Sweetest Illusion" show in Chicago a-way back when: "Basia reminds me of a woman who has truly FOUND THE WAY to SHINE in all of her BRILLIANCE!! Her aura is so full of JOY." I'm sure you all agree! The only Basia they had was the remix album and albums available in the US. Interestingly enough, at the Japanese places, they translate the names into Japanese characters - so I had to ask the clerks to help me find the CD's since they weren't in our alphabetical order. At the British stores, they had the artists with the familiar names, but they were ordered by group name, first name. So all the artists named "George" were together with all the groups that started with G instead of sorted by last name, as they are here. It made finding CD's very very interesting! ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V3 #75 **************************
