The MPEG is 20 seconds and 3.7 M long, Ben, Downloaded the MPEG. Both the video and audio are great! You had me worried with that talk about time base errors and dropouts, but when considering the source is a 10-year-old video tape, I think the quality is quite good. At least we know that in digital form, the quality won't degrade with time. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jan 1998 07:31:54 GMT From: combee@techwood.org (Ben Combee) Subject: Re: "Astrud" samples online William Daystrom writes: > Downloaded the MPEG. One thing to notice: around the right edge of the window, you might see a jagged black border. This is time base error -- its caused by timing problems where the individual lines of the frame don't start at exactly the right time. Playing from an analog source, this causes waviness in the picture. With digitial capture and playback, it just means that you lose a little bit of detail on that line. The worse dropouts in this tape are at the very beginning of the clip, part I didn't included in my sample. Also, the uncropped version has really bad color noise at the top of the frame. - -- Benjamin L. Actually it was quite exciting. I'm really looking forward to the CD. Thanks again for some great work... The Atlanta 1994 concert is an audio-only audience recording I made... its about two hours long and gets all of the show except for the final encore song. I'd given copies to several list members in private tape trades, something I'm willing to do still, but once the burner is in, I'm going to see about converting it to a digital file as well for achival purposes. - -- Benjamin L. Ca'nt wait for the finished product. Two, regarding the Audio encoding; I've done a LOT of audio encoding and will be glad to help get it into .MP3 format. MP3 is the standard high-quality compression format with the best support in the community. Plus, the player is shareware. :) - -Robert Ben Combee wrote: > William F. G.
