My current plans involve getting a new 8Gig hard drive just for this project so I get all the clips digitized and output. I'm also looking into burning CD-Rs of the clips I have in MPEG format as an alternative distribution form. The raw footage gathering is mostly over, although I did get an offer for a clip I didn't have recently. I also still need to get the Matt Bianco videos converted from PAL to NTSC for capture -- that or get a PAL player from which to digitize. I want this project to turn out right -- maintaining video and sound quality from VHS source material and non-professional gear is demanding and difficult. If I can get the additional hardware in the next month, I'll try to find time to just force myself to sit down and do all the grunt work. I can't make a good promise as to the delivery date right now, though. BTW, I'm sending this reply to the mailing list as well. List members: how do you want your video? CD-R/MPEG won't be as pretty, but it can be made a lot cheaper and faster than copying video tapes and without the generation loss of a tape tree. Any strong feelings? I figure I'll probably do both formats, although if I do both, the CD-Rs will be ready first. (and no, I will not be putting any clips up on the web... maybe some stills, but I don't have the bandwidth or disk space for streaming video right now) - -- Benjamin L. I appreciate you taking time to have it done right the first time and done well - I'd rather get it next year and have it be top quality than right now and it's so-so. For permanence alone I'd prefer the CDR myself. I can think of one advantage to CD-R at the user end - searchability. Mabey others willing to dub to VHS from their PC for those requiring that format can make that contribution to the project....... I like most have been anxiously waiting to get this for viewing. I hope it can be made available soon. Do you know how much you will charge for the cheaper version?
