Just wanted to pop in and wish everybody happy holidays - I have been very busy and so not really been able to pop in here as much as I would like. I had the wonderful experience of being at a friend's home for Xmas dinner on Xmas Eve, and on Xmas day when the kids were unwrapping their presents we were listening to the radio and Basia's "Angels Blush" came on! How nice it was to hear that song again... I hadn't heard it in quite some time but instantly recognized Danny's piano. :) Hope everyone has a great Xmas, Solstice, Chanukkah, Kwaanza, Yule, or whatever you celebrate at this time of year! It's wonderful to get together with friends and family and have a great feast and exchange presents, isn't it? All the best! - --Di. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Dec 1997 11:21:59 -0800 From: mike smith Subject: Re: happymerrysafeandhealthy! happy holidaze Di, Met Peter @ Vancouver WA Xmas concert and was blown away with him and his band......Greg V is a monster player (he's sending me his cds) and Peter is a joy to listen to and watch......the Xmas cd is a real triumph of arranging and musicianship.....i am still playing it cause it makes me so happy and and it makes me remember a special PW nite....thanks and keep that chevelle rollin...........tmike ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Dec 1997 13:20:27 -0600 From: "Don Leuty" Subject: Re: happymerrysafeandhealthy! Many thanks, Di. And...a very special thanks for the heads-up on the Peter White appearance at Caravan of Dreams a few months ago. Your advance notice gave us the opportunity to be at stage-side. My son was able to have one of the most memorable birthdays of his life. Thanks again for making it possible to share such a glorious evening with him and his significant other. God bless and keep you. don - -----Original Message----- From: Diane F. Yes Diane, it is a great feeling to have friends and family around for the holidays. Contrary to popular belief, the USA has a certain segment of its population that is very nomadic: Our servicemen and servicewomen. You see, while some tours of duty may seem exciting and the challenge of defending the greatest nation in the world's history very demanding, many times, we as our nations "nomads" don't put down roots for a very long time. Thus, when we do "settle down" somewhere, it is sometimes somewhat difficult to adjust not only your lifestyle, but attitudes, pocketbooks, and thought processes. Though I served our nation for 22 years as a member of the U. S. Coast Guard, I was always comforted by the fact that in doing so, my family sacrifices would not go unheeded by our country and my countrymen. Having settled, finally, in Western Pennsylvania (Beaver County), and having been here for a while, I am getting quite used to the fact that this is where I will die......someday. The point I'm getting at is, as a "netizen" I am as far away from contact each of us on the e.mail as my keyboard.....but as a transplanted service member, knowing my neighbors, my extended family, and the people of whom I live around does give a person a comfortable feeling when someone, sometimes a total stranger, wishes you a, "Merry Christmas!" For all you, my fellow admirers of the greatest jazz singer of all time, our very own Basia, I wish you all a joyous holiday season and all the best for 1998. Remember that if not for the sacrifices of those on the "front line" we, as a people, would not enjoy the freedoms that we have today. Remember the young men and women who are: Away at sea from their families; On the front line in Western Europe; Keep watch in the Persian Gulf; Deployed in the Western Pacific; Conducting ice operations in either the Arctic or Antarctic; or just might be on a special leave of absence before "orders" take them away......maybe for a final time, never to return. It is for them.....and for all of us on this network......that I hope and pray for a safe 1998..... Ed Cidade, a retired Chief Warrant Officer, U. S. Coast Guard PS: Basia, if you are "listening," you're welcomed over for a great New Year's Celebration at my house! Okay, if you don't want to, I'd settle for your appearing on Letterman or with Leno.....just tell us you're still alive! ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V2 #229 ***************************
